Yo Troopers. This is my idea of keeping track of what I have in my collection. Got to thinking I wont be here forever, then my son wants to sell the Soldiers one day he wont know whats what, you have seen this on ebay many times people selling their Dads collections off and haven't got a clue what they are or what goes in what box. So my Wife comes up with this great idea, buy a HP Photosmart that does instant photo's at home, photograph every new item, I buy and print it off right away. Then write the details on the back of Photo IE: Britains set # 8820 single 11th Hussar. Issued 1991 x 4. Cost £12.00 each. Its not so bad when some of your sets are already boxed, but you can still put price you paid and condition etc and year of issue. Like my Balakalava set up, all the Regiments are out of the boxes, it would be a nightmare for somebody to sort out, so I show the photo of the Regiment, write on the back what number box they go in, makes it a lot easier to sort out the collection. Anyway guys that's my idea on how to make it easy for myself and anyone who comes after me.
Bernard.

Hi Bernard,

Thats a very good idea. I am tempted to try it especially since we're still on active duty and will be moving again next summer. I was discussing this with a my good friend Pat the other day and we were bothing thinking of using some sort of software but aside from excell could think of a good alternative to help with this really big issue

I really appreciate seeing a very unique and easily used solution to a very real problem.

All the best

Dave

Great idea Bernard. There are programs that you can buy for your computer that allow you to enter info about each piece, price, manufacturer, date bought etc....and also add a photo of the item. Problem is you are always have to update it and keep a copy in case your computer crashes.

I think your idea is just as good and probably easier to use. There is something to be said for the good old days of just keeping paper documents :)

Hmmm, write a book with photographs and descriptions of every set in your collection, and include the original retail price as well as date of production and other pertinent details? What a good idea . . . ;)

Yo Louis, thanks mate I get lost myself sometime's when looking for say a set number, and I have all the boxes stored away in two big suitcases, so instead of dragging them out and having to go through all the boxes, all I have to do is get the photo out of the album and all the info is there, works really well, and saves a lot of time.:D

Bernard,

What you are doing is writing a book about the toy soldiers you collect . . . just like I did about K&C, the toy soldiers I collect . . .
