In this thread I would like to look at WB 18001: American Continental Line New Jersey Regiment Casualty Set #1, sculpted by W. Britain's own Ken Osen.I decided to present this set because as an art historian I appreciate the artistic and sculptural skills that went into its design and making. Like all great sculptures it can be appreciated from many different angles. The set is also a masterpiece of animation, capturing a moment in time when 2 men have been simultaneously hit by British musket balls. It is also an incredible balancing act. As noted recently by Scott (britfarmer) the entire piece is supported by one leg! In subsequent frames I will show the set from different points of view and also connect it to some other works of art.

Ken's Work in this example reminds me of the famous painting by 19th C American painter Winslow Homer done in 1909 called "Right And Let". The painting depicts 2 ducks being hit by both barrels of a shotgun being fired by a hunter in a boat in the distance.

Ironically Homer's "Right & Left" is linked to a Civil War painting by Homer that he painted in 1864. It is entitled "Inviting a Shot before Petersburg, Virginia". It depicts a Confederate soldier standing atop a trench defiantly challenging Union sharpshooters to fire at him.The smoke of their guns may be seen in the distance.

Here's a shot combining aspects of Homer's 2 paintings by adding smoke from musket fire along the treeline. I'm not sure, however, if the musket range is too far to reach our 2 Continentals.

Hi Randy, your photos do this piece justice, however, there is something about it in the flesh that does not work. I have seen it in hobbybunker and it just does not look right to me. How do other collector's feel about this set?

There is the shot I was looking for Ken at his workbench.........of course I

am suprised he looks like he was shoved in there with a shoe horn!

I was expecting a big fancy area with lots of room to create!:D

Set he sculpted is brilliant!
