One of the pleasures of our hobby is most defintely developing a greater understanding of the history the models depict. So many times manufacturers release a regiment and the figures bring to life and inspire a new avenue of interest. I hadn't really considered the 1st dragoons much beyond their title, but the impressive new figures led me to do a bit of research. First I wanted to know if they were involved in the Peninsular War, and the answer is defintely a confusing one. The KGL dragoons, 1st and 2nd were involved, but they were heavy dragoons, in red coats and bicorns. In 1812 they were changed into light dragoons, but uniformed as hussars. This is what the new figures represent, the dragoons (hussars) of Waterloo. Not sure where I'm going with this, but have defintely been inspired to dig deeper. Fantastic models!
