Finally, social media and toy soldiers. It may not beat the Forum for most of us collectors, but in time, it will attract new blood in the industry. IMO, since KC brought the new ones in they'll be more loyal to them.

KC has done some innovative camera tricks with 2 of their YouTube video that work. I might try some of them in time.

My apologies for stating this, "why did it take so long for TS companies to use Social Media?'

I have nothing against social media, per se, but they gather too much information about you than I want them to have (or think they should have). This comment pertains more to FB than anything else.

Brad:

You think that's bad, Google has to be the biggest offender. Yeah, even tracking people on this forum that got here via YouTube or Google searches. So you're kind of stuck aren't you?

I guess you could disconnect from the Internet entirely, but then you would miss the wonderful experience of being an active member of this Forum's community wouldn't you?

Carlos,

That's true (try doing an internet search on yourself) but I don't need to add to it. I belong to FB and Twitter but barely ever look at them.

From a commercial point of view, FB is a great resource; my nephew who is a painter has increased his income because of FB.

Personally, I have little use for it.

Right Brad:

Social Media is best to attract new collector unfamiliar with the Forum or preferring other marketing channels (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, etc.).

That's the beauty of marketing; communicate with your target audience the way they prefer (e.g. Forum for guys like you and others) and social media for others. BTW, Facebook is best used for B2C (business to consumer) and blogs for B2B; they're exceptions.

Twitter is a whole different animal all together but could be very effective if done right. Again, Twitter isn't likely the best channel for most on this Forum.

Social Media Marketing is a commitment to companies and needs to monitored/ measured closely and yet should be allowed time to grow.

I wish other TS manufactures would do what KC is doing but they have there reasons I guess.

I personally am not much a fan of social media either but it has its values to some. Frankly with internet searches and web sites it is not clear to me that social media is all that useful. From what I have seen, it is more noise than substance but those who like that are more than welcome.

On the privacy side there are many options to minimize the amount of information avalable on you if you chose. For example I always use a "nom du plume" and have a very common real name so the tracking on me is extremely limited. That is the way I like it and it does not in any way limit any enjoyment I may derive from the Net.

Point well taken Harper.

Then social media isn't for you and if I were a toy soldier retailer and manufacturer I would continue to market through the channel that you and Brad prefer (Forum and your favorite TS website. That would go a long ways to keeping you happy and loyal currently.

My speculation is; that's why Andy hasn't made a big deal announcing these new KC social media options (Facebook, YouTube, etc.) because I assume you're already happy getting dispatches, magazine ads, shows, emails, Forum updates, etc.

Social media is for all those who prefer another way to be tantalized with TS. They're a different breed and heavens knows the hobby needs it!
