Does anyone know the artist of this painting of the Death of Major Ferguson at King's Mountain, 1780? Don Troiani perhaps? I am looking for a larger image of it. It would make a great diorama set.
Thanks,
Randy

I have a book on the American Revolution that credits the National Park Service at Kings Mountain with owning the picture but there is nothing about it on the NPS site. To access Myspace don't you need to be a member?
I don't know but even if you do I imagine it is free. Most of those sites are.

I would have guessed Don, but after a search of Don's art and the title itself, I could not find it..Michael

Hi I have also got this picture in my AWI file for Kings Mountain and agree the potential for a diorama with the death of Pat Ferguson in the centre would look cool!

Will look out for artist details of the one you posted.

I know this has nothing to do with the pictue you are looking for, but I clicked on this thread to see the picture and to throw in a little pride if I may. My Great x5 or 6 grandfather fought at Kings Mountain. He was a captain in the Militia. his name was Moses Guest and after the battle, he helped to escort several hundred British prisoners to Cowpens I think, where some others were being held.

Thank you for your interesting family story.

Folks do not realize that the British took greater hits and had more men and material losses in the Southern theatre than in Washington's area of responsibilty. The fact that Cornwallis could no longer resupply and sustain his force were reasons he ended up in Yorktown, in the first place..Michael

Randy,

I live 20 minutes from King's Mountain and I have been there several times.

I was at the King's Mountain Battlefield on Saturday the 4th and I did not see this photo in their lobby or museum. I do not know the artist of that painting either.

Redsoldiercollector, that is awesome to have that legacy in your family. My family did not arrive in America until 1788. I do wonder if any of my relatives had served in the British army during the Revolution.

I only took a few photos on my trip this Saturday. My 16 month old daughter kept me hopping. Pushing her up the mountain side in the stroller was tough!

Thank you for the photos of King's Mountain and trying to find the painting.
During WWII my dad was stationed at Camp Croft in Spartanburg where he got to know the poet Archibald Rutledge whose Hampton Plantation had been visited during the AWI by Washington and Francis Marion during the Southern campaign. I still have a book by Rutledge about Hampton called Home by the River. http://archibaldrutledge.com/default.aspx

Darrell, thanks for the photo's of your daughter, brought a smile to my face.I can remember when my youngest daughter was that age and her sister was a little older, and I took them both all around the northeast visiting any FIW site that I could find. To this day, they're both in their late 20's, they still remember their favorite site- the dungeons at Fort Ticonderoga (mannikins in the cells, covered with blood and bandages)

I love diorama sets and the Conte sets based on the Troiani ACW paintings is what got me started collecting.I wanted the Cowpens set that was suppose to come out but alas it never came to be.So yes this would be a great vignette/diorama set.Hint hint Mr. Osen.
