Would be the business

could have a whole range of rolling stock, flat beds for tanks, boxcars with troops, mounted flak guns...

Give the french resistence something to blow up.

Best film about that was The Train with Burt Lancaster:)

Good idea, but it will be extremely expensive  because of the size 1/30...

I bought an awesome 54mm Boer War Armored train with a Trophy crew for my son. It is huge - each car is about 13 inches long. In addition to expense there would be serious size concerns. That being said, I would by a WWII armored train in a heartbeat.

Using some internet research and some of my own limited knowledge I have found that Aristo Craft makes compatiable scale trains for 1:30. The problem is that while WWII era US rolling stock and locomotives are available from Aristo Craft (with realistic couplers and other detailing) European style trains with the double bumpers on each side of the rolling stock and of the correct time era are very hard to find.

Marklin does make European style trains of the scale but to find the right time era in Marklin is very difficult. I would think that somewhere is a Marklin dealer who has some stock that would fit for WWII German trains (they do make modern military train rolling stock complete with vehicles or tanks).

Plus Aristo Craft is inexpensive when compared to Marklin.

We have discussed this issue on another thread, but maybe if someone knows of a source for European WWII era flat cars they could post either a web site address or a phone number.:)

This idea keeps popping up here on the forum and it is intriguing. I would envision it working something like this- which is probably what you have there Louis:

Rather than try to make it one piece, make it a series of pieces. Include it in the WS line as a subset- much like the Blitz figures were or even the German cavalry sets. Do it something like this

WS10x- Locomotive- probably would be the most expensive piece- why not make it a SL item, keep the production level low to gauge customer response so you don't loose your shirt on it if it bombs.

WS10x- coal car

WS10x- artillery car/ gun emplacement car- something with the 20 mike mike flak guns

WS10x- passenger car

WS10x- transport car- perhaps have a tiger tied down

WS10x- caboose

WS10x- train security team

I dunno something like that- make a couple generic cars so that collectors could make their trains as big or short as they want. This way, collectors aren't buying one massive $1,000 or so piece but they can buy reasonably affordable cars- I gotta think one of these cars would price roughly the same as the heavier armor.

I don't believe this is out of the realm of possibility- I think it could be done, but whether or not it would be profitable is another question. I would have to see it first to consider it.

A lot of train enthusiasts setup neat military trains.

Chris,

I think its agreat idea, and like I said, if Andy does it I would be in, but how many collectors would have the 5-6 foot long, at least one+ foot wide area it would take to display this behemoth? I would be very hard pressed to find the space for it, and I have a way more understanding wife than the average collector.

The pieces could be made in hollowed out resin, to keep costs down..And maybe scaled to at least sit on existing track available...Michael

I would buy one. I would move things around but I could see putting on top of a dresser.

The Kriegslokomotive from Trumpeter (1:35 scale) is 35'' long and 5'' high.

We can dream.

Pierre.

I wish you were right, but that was a one of a kind diorama, using a flatbed train bought at a model train store. Gordon later did a bigger version with two flatbed train cars, which were bought at a model train store near my house during last years symposium. I would say there is probably less than a 10% chance (most probably 0%) of Andy ever doing any armored train cars.

We'll see, I can wait... Perhaps in a couple of yease.

Meanwhile, can you give me more info about the, flatbed train? Like brand model etc..

Thanks

JP

Dragon models has a couple, maybe three, rail cars in 54mm. One is a flat car, another is an armoured gun carriage mounting a PZK IV turret.

I would be very surprised if KC ever gets into the train business. Something like a nice SL Compiègne railway carriage for the 1940 French surrender is probably the most that could be expected in my opinion.

Would love to own a nice SL Compiègne wagon...

We'll see in a couple of years where KC will be going.
They don't have to make a lot of tracks wagons and trains, only some flatbed wagons and straight track. So that we can put supplies and tanks on them...
