This is the exact fact that debunks the old lie about hundreds of Tigers being destroyed. The Germans never had hundreds of Tigers on any field of battle and they were especially adept at getting the ones they did have back into action when they were damaged. I do not remember the exact numbers, but by the time of the clash at Provkarovka, the 3 SS divisions had less than 2 dozen Tigers in action between them. Hardly the hundreds described destroyed by the Russians and many historians since. -- lancerPretty much the II.SS.PzK operating in the southern pincer. It includes:
- 1.SS.PzGr.Div. "LSSAH"
- 2.SS.PzGr.Div. "Das Reich"
- 3.SS.PzGr.Div. "Totenkopf"
While still named Panzergrenadier divisions at this point they were essentially Panzer divisions including a company (14) of Tigers in each.
