I got my new Landing Craft today from Figarti. I want to Thank Rick from Figarti and Matt from Hobby Bunker for putting together the order. As soon as I started to open it I had all these warm feelings:D Then it hit me...I'm really not ready to display it:eek:...BUT I GOT IT!:D I see lot of people read my posts regarding the palm tree idea I have but nobody responded...DOES THIS MEAN IT WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA???

actually Markey I think the palm trees is a pretty cool idea, just wouldn't want to go to over board and take away from the main piece...Sammy

Sammy...someone sent me an email and said there are Desert Palms (dates) and Pacific Palms (coconuts) The K&C SP Palms are Desert Palms and therefore would not be an actual correct tree for use...I have some pre-ordered anyhow from Treefrog so when they come I will use them for my AK set. I'm certainly glad to know some specifics nevertheless.

I would use them regardless as unless you were showing your collection to a botanist, most people wouldn't know the difference.

Build-a-rama has several pieces of jungle foliage, blasted and fallen palm trees, etc Have a look at their stuff which you can get from Treefrog.

Are you planning to use this for North Africa or the Pacific?

If the former, using AK troops wouldn't make sense since when landings were done in North Africa, they were opposed by the French, at least in Morocco and Algeria. If you're just using the palm trees, I'm not sure (and defer to others) whether Morocco and Algeria have palm trees along the coast.

There are date Palm trees along the coasts of Morocco, Algeria, Lybia and Egypt as well as inland along rivers and at oasis. I think taht the K&C and JG Miniatures palm trees are suitable for North Afrika and the Build-a-rama palm trees and logs are well suited to the Pacific.

Pacific for sure and North Africa no doubt. I just didn't know whether the de-embarkation points in Morocco and Algeria had/has palm trees. I recall seeing photos of just sandy beaches but don't hold me to it. Also, was this kind of landing craft then available (at least in North Africa, late 1942)?

Landing craft used in North Africa by the US included the LCVP (Higgens Boat), LST, LCI(Large) and possibly some others. I do not think the Americans used any LCAs. The LCI (Large) was the main infantry landing craft.
It looks like the 2 new K&C landing craft are an LCM(3) carrying a tank, and an LCVP
