Battle took place during the night 6/7th Feb 1968 when the NVA used PT-76 tanks of which seven were destroyed.
The Special Forces Camp just a few kilometers from Khe Sanh with 24 Americans 500 Montagnards, Vietnamese CIDG and some 350 Loatian Army was overrun by NVA.
K&C Marines standing in for Green Berets.
NVA here a mixture of K&C, some of which I have repainted, TG Viet Minh and a single TCS.

Excellent, Steve, and an interesting bit of history. The Marines are definitely outnumbered! Hopefully they have Claymore mines in the wire.

Reminds me of the scene from the movie the Green Beret with John Wayne. Not a great movie, but I enjoyed it.

A great battle scene with just the right amount of figures to accomplish. Robin.

Excellent scene Steve. Just need the 106mm RCL gunner to clear the front with a cannister round before taking out the PT 76.

Cheers,
Grey

Yes but too few Claymores for this lot ! Hopefully K&C will do a set or two featuring setting out Claymores.

I read somewhere that the attack on the camp was based on the 1964, battle of Nam Dong.

Apparently it mostly attracting laughter and derision from the troops who saw it at the time, it's certainly one of the earliest films set during and filmed at the of the Vietnam War. Another that I've only ever been able to see short clips of is A Yank in Vietnam, was actually shot in South Vietnam around about 1964 during the war, though of B picture action quality and B&W.

Yes, scaled the attack to the amount of figures I have, still with the attack being at night even in open ground most wouldn't of been seen in pitch darkness and only illuminated by explosions and flares.

Excellent scene Steve. Just need the 106mm RCL gunner to clear the front with a cannister round before taking out the PT 76.

Yes but have the sands of time run out for these guys !{sm2}

Very good Steve!!! You've captured the action perfectly.

Thanks for the background on the actual event too.

Few other than those whose hobby is solely in military history or perhaps it's because we collect Toy Soldiers and most of us have no doubt favourite eras to collect, that we become aware of, more so than the general public of the bravery of the men involved in these live and death struggles we portray with these little figures and bring back to life in the memory even if just for a moment those involved in these momentous occasions. Of course for these more recent wars, there are witnesses to these very events in our own ranks !
