Does anyone else collect the beach figures from Laura Cuello? I received these from Treefrog last week. I really like them. Each figure comes in three different paint schemes. I plan on collecting most of them.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a toy beach? I like Build-A-Rama's BAR197, but I think it might be too realistic. I prefer more toy-like scenery such as metal trees for glossies.

I don't have any but they are very nice.

For your beach how about a pice of foam core.

Paint 1/3rd with a suitable ocean blue colour then when dry go over with a coat of white glue (this will seal it and add a wet look to the blue simulating water). The other 2/3 paint with white glue and then cover with sand.

Those are very nice figures. Have you looked at Laura's web page showing the beach images that inspired her figures? They might give you some ideas for setting up your scenes. I usually use realistic settings to photograph my glossy figures and feel that they go well together if you want to use one of the commercial beach mats. Don't forget this subject was popular with 19th C artists such as Manet, Monet, Degas, Winslow Homer, and many others and looking at their paintings may provide other ideas.

I have been thinking about some of these sets as Christmas or birthday presents for my four granddaughters as keepsakes. They are really great sets.

Some of there figures go very well as spectators for the Delhi Durbar ...

(I think it was either Randy or Pat W. who came up with that idea)

Hi Tintin,

Thanks very much for posting the very nice photograph of the beach figures from Laura Cuello.

These are the traditional type figures in gloss 54mm if I am not mistaken.

Cheers, Raymond.:)

suggestions for a toy beach?

LEMAX makes a mat that looks like water but not TOO much for it's Plymouth Corners figures. Between Halloween and the Winter Solstice coming up, the LEMAX items should be in all the AC Moores and Michaels craft shops. The mat could fit the style of the glossy figures.
