Le Cimier Henry IV (1 Viewer)

This piece was painted more than 20 years ago. I have decided to refurbish and rebase it to pair it up with another Le Cimier Marie de Medici figure.

I'm amused, Vic, that you cycle back to figures you painted in the past and repaint them, because they look pretty good to my eye. I have a friend, Paul Keefe, who is an extraordinary modeler, and he does the same thing with models and dioramas he built years ago. He reworks them, often almost rebuilding a piece from scratch. For me, once I've finished, I've finished, and I don't redo a piece.

I find your originals to be excellent, but also your reworks to be interesting, and your results, while different from your original work, are just as excellent.

I guess it bears repeating as to why I recycle my figures. Because I'm cheap... I know that I have literally thousands of unmade figures in my stash but it's nice to know that there is a backlog of inventory to tide over rising figure costs etc. Give my regards to your friend Paul, who sounds like a frugal kind of guy, too....

20 years ago is a long time. I must have picked up more skillsets in that period. Sometimes, when I look at an older piece, I think to myself that I should have done this or that. Well with more efficient and better techniques, I can whip up the necessary changes faster than if I was to start a figure from scratch. Artistically, the concept had been pre-determined earlier. It is just the technical effort needed to improve things.

For this piece, Henry's wife Marie de Medici was better painted with highlights and shadings. I am just trying to bring Henry IV up to speed for a better pairing.

The blues have been painted. I noticed that in some of my earlier work when I had used cheaper oil colours, these colours had somewhat faded. Best to to stick to W&N and other top ranges.

Hi Brad,

I've just completed the costume, lightening the blues and browns as well. Now to touch up the face and hands and I think that it is suitable for the final pairing with Marie de Medici.

I am touching up the Marie Medici figure to go with the Henri IV figure. I intend to place both eventually on the same base.

This is the base painted dark brown black.

Finally some movement on this thread. Painting lines and squares on the base is not fun. I finally decided to use masking tape to paint the strips.

When dry, the base was drilled to take the Henri IV figure. Both figures were then epoxied to the base. Done except for the name plate.

Based turned out well also.

These are two exceptional pieces !

The lighting and background sure help to see the detail...the figures certainly compliment each other.
