In his victory speech, De Gaulle said: “Paris liberated! Liberated by itself, liberated by its people with the support of the armies of France, with the help and support of the whole of France, of the France that fights, of the only France, of the true France, of the eternal France!”

Maybe a good day to watch the 1966 classic Is Paris Burning....

The 1966 film directed by René Clément, starring an ensemble cast, about the liberation of Paris in August 1944 by the French Resistance and the Free French Forces during World War II. The script was based on the book of the same title by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre.

I remember how De Gaulle wanted all our S.O.E agents out of France as soon as the War was over. All their bravery, daring, risk and effort totally unappreciated. All those young Brits and Americans who died on those Normandy beaches, it was if they never did it.

De Gaulle had a remarkably short memory when it came to thanking his Allies and a remarkably long one in exacting revenge on his enemies. -- Al

I know there was ill feeling towards the Brits in some parts of France because of the sinking of their ships at the start of the War and then the civilian casualties during the bombing campaign pre D Day, but you do in the end HAVE to ask a harsh, cold question. Do you want freedom or life under the Nazi's??
