Does anyone know how many of the Roman sets will be released? I am pretty sold on these unless the releases are not limited just cant get into the make them forever theme. I would like to start collecting these, they are excellent, best Roman Line I have scene but would be turned away if there is no cap on the number made. Any idea? Thanks Joel

Based on what Ken has said, he is planning on releasing 40 sets- 20 were supposed to go live in June, 10 later in August and then another 10 in November. I am not sure where all that stands now given the delay in the first batch.

I haven't heard any discussions on the production runs. It really doesn't matter to me if he makes 300 or 3,000 figures to be honest. I am not one who tracks production numbers.

Do you know what his other sets have been? As I am one who tracks production numbers, it does matter to me when I decide what I will collect. 300 I would buy 3000 I will look for other oppertunitys.

I do not have any information- he hasn't provided it but at the same time, I haven't asked as I just am not interested. I have always felt that production numbers are sales gimmicks and that the toy soldiers either stand on their own or they don't. So far as I know, Jenkins and KC release that information but other companies do as well- Conte does on occasion- like the Roman war galley and some of the Russian manufacturers do with really limited pieces (ie sets of 10).

I have yet to be convinced that releasing production numbers does anything to enhance a products appeal. Some of the larger russian distributors say that certain figures are "limited editions of 10 figures" and they sit and sit with that hefty $3,000 pricetag. Even Conte's roman war galleys can still be had, per their website, at the discount price of $400 and they are limited edits of 200.

If I had to take an educated guess with EoI though, based on what I have seen with the Colonials and the Samurai's I would say the runs are in the 3-500 range, though, I believe the Samurai's are quite popular in Japan so the runs may be higher. I believe the Roman collection will offer a new variable for Ken to manage in the fact that this is a departure from offering 3 man sets. A lot of these figures will be individual figures. I have to think that provides the collector more versatility in posing these figures and the demand for certain figures could be wild across the boards.

Take the Centurion for example- how many Centurions should really be shown in a diorama?? Then how many of the fighting legionaires should be shown?? I am planning on buying tons of the legionaires and cavalry figures but really won't need too many of the Centurions (St. Pete will really provide them for me in truth). Looking at it from that perspective, the demand for the Centurions could be pretty healthy initially and then drop way off so the production run might not be as high. The legionaires though, could enjoy significant sales volume for a very very long time.

Of course, that's assuming that Ken hurries up and returns from Hispania soon and gets these legionaires out to us :D

Thanks I will wait and see, strongly disagree with your take on the limited sets but do understand you point of view. I just feel differently, Thanks again Joel

Interesting observations Chris. I thought it would be efficient to number the points that I wanted to pursue.
1) I certainly hope it is more than 500 for the cavalry and legionaries. That could make for a very short life span given the interest. :D Gads, that would barely make up a Cohort.
2) One for each Centuria naturally.;):D
3) About 80 legionaries per Centuria:D
4) I have been wondering about just that. Since you brought it up, when do you think he will be back with an answer on production timing / ordering etc?
Cheers,

My responses Citizen :D

1.) Correct- which is what I think it going to make this line and production numbers much more different than EoI's previous sets. The single figure sets make this a wildcard when compared to previous releases. I gotta think guys like us, who may very well try to put some full cohorts out there are probably in the 5-10% category- most collectors will go for less. So yes, the 3-500 that I believe were prior production runs, may not work for the Romans.

2, 3.) Correct.

4.) Not sure when he will return though I wouldn't hold my breath on releasing the production runs. I just don't see him doing it. I never ask and I won't here as I just am not concerned with it, again, my personal preference. If I like it, I will get it.

Well to cut costs perhaps you could do a legion that has just been decimated. That should save on a few figures.
Ave Caesar
Those who are about to die salute you

I believe the Samurai's are quite popular in Japan so the runs may be higher.

Chris, just curious where you read this? I am interested in all aspects of samurai figures from every manufacturer, including their marketability around the world. While it would be logical that samurai figures would do well in Japan, I had never heard anything to that effect one way or the other until now. Thanks!

Hey CS

That comment was based on emails I have exchanged with Ken. He has mentioned that he has several Japanese customers and they have a pretty broad interest in those figures. I do not have any empirical data or what not to back that up though. I am not sure if they are more or less popular than they are here in the States.

You are most gracious Caesar. Regarding the last point, I was not inquiring about production runs, that holds little interest for me until he runs out. Rather, I was referring to the update on the timing of the release that he promised to provide upon return and whether there was any schedule for pre-ordering. All Hail MC.:D

Yes Citizen, Caesar is most merciful :D:D

Oh, ok, no I haven't heard anything about preordering- I usually snoop around the michtoy website as they run early order release discount sales- I am hoping to hear some news from there as well. Otherwise, I fear my co-consul may have deserted us in favor of his campaign along warm and sunny shores of Hispania  Should his trireme find its way back on course, I am sure he will keep us informed of the upcoming release.

And he had better return from those warm and sunny shores with much booty for his citizens :D

Well historically Spain is a good location for raising legions of quality. Let it be so here.:D

Still would like to know from Mr Clarke if any of the set will be limited? Thanks Joel

Ceasar I am sorry to disturb but are you sure he boarded that trireme? I am being to think he is bogged down with building a villa. I think we should make an offering to the gods.:D

Thanks Joel!

Sorry for my tardy response but if you care to look at the "EOI Roman Status" thread then it will update you. Thank you also for your encouraging comments!

Of this figure you see; there will be just 3 sets produced! This has happened due to the factors mentioned in the above mentioned thread but I am certain we can do a deal on the first 15 types painted one off :D

But seriously I have found a better and more consistent factory so we hopefully are going forward in a better and more organised structure and the new figures as I mentioned are better painted especially when it comes to metallic paints.

East of India does not mass produce figures in any way and really is a small but specialised company supplying the needs of the more discerning collector. Myself for one! It is unlikely that we make any more than 700 of the legionnaires and as Chris mentions maybe 200 to 300 of the centurion and standard bearers and 400 of the cavalry. You can't be a Chief collector and have no Indians surely. Or is that statement now NPC?

They will NOT be numbered individually. We have found out that when the mould runs out in production it is far better to move on and create new figures to add to an existing range rather than remould and make the same old ones. I would rather create new figures, or indeed use some of the more popular poses of figures already in existence to create a new legion, than endlessly churn out the same figures over and over again.

Thanks for your post and I hope that it will confirm your decision to collect this range!

I am sure there is interest on the first figures;):D Would that be "a deal, deal":D:D
The numbers sound reasonable so long as Chris doesn't plan on raising his cohorts too quickly.:D I hope we don't seem too impatient but your tantilizing photos have done the trick. I know I look forward to the pre-order instructions.;) When you pull this off we will have to see about arranging a triumphus for you. It sounds like the requisite body count will have been met, in figurative terms at least.;):D
I wouldn't worry about the NPC, of course I am a Washington Redskins fan so I am used to being NPC (and for a few other reasons I can think of but nice they have a label for it though:D)
Hail Ceasar.
