I just picked this coffee table-style book and it's a wonderful blend of photographs and history. Photographer Robert Shaw and Lincoln historian Dr. Michael Burlingame take readers on a visual journey that is a one of a kind book. Burlingame’s writing and Shaw’s images are woven together with Lincoln’s own words to re-create and explore Lincoln’s life story with the places he visited.

Shaw traveled over a hundred thousand miles in the making of the images for the book, which range from the Mississippi River to New Hampshire. The book begins at Lincoln’s birthplace in Kentucky, moves through his younger years in Indiana, offering a comprehensive view of his twenty-nine years in Illinois, travels to The White House and the years of the Civil War.

The images are connected to writings and statements by Lincoln which are often about the locations. For example Lincoln was born in Sinking Spring, Kentucky and the book shows photos of Sinking Spring.

Here's a link to Firelight Publishing, which published the book. I got mine through the Abraham Lincoln Bookshop in Chicago but I think Barnes & Noble carries it.

This is a tremendous book and if you have any interest in Lincoln, I highly recommend it.
