Little Legion Madness! (1 Viewer)

looks like a good old case of bidding fever .
I guess a little bit of research goes a long way sometimes .

completely flabbergasted-but very happy for the Seller-winner has dipped into some very deep pockets previously-feedback scanning verifies. This week saw the top price I've seen for a single Tommy Atkins figure GBP 69.00 FOR #270223370877 a 15.40 figure!I thought I was extreme at less than 1/2 that.Similarly amazing today #120238930165 10 1973 W.B. Lifeguards brought $227.50!-o.

Wow

I saw this one when it started and was really amazed by where it ended up. they are nice looking but $700 is a bit over the top.

The Lifeguards are worth $100.00. They are still available to this day and are probably still stamped on the bases 1973. Amazes me what some people will pay. A little research before you get into collecting goes a long long way.

Hi Britfarmer,

I have had the very same discussion with a couple of our other members we just cant figure out what makes these guys puy twice the going rate for a set that is still available new from the maker. I think the prices being made on some of these auctions are amazing but mainly due to the fact that the buyers are amazingly ignorant or too lazy to search the web and find the dealer witht he best prices. Oh well its the old line a fool and his money are soon parted come to life...

All the best

Dave

Hadn't noted the 1973 stamping thing-will certainly look now.Tickled to see new listing item#1502332311825 at the manufacturer's eBay store. He's kindly enough to provide a link to Little Legion website for those to whom it may not occur that such a critter exists.I hope this listing does as well as the previous. The only discernable difference I note is the quality of the photography,D.Hazell's photo is artful, gildingly lit and sufficiently clear, this new one calls vaseline to mind.Naturally seeing EXACTLY what one is bidding on is intensely meaningful to some of us,and I've previously found cause to lament brilliant toy soldier makers providing murky unfocused pics. Also worth remembering is that orders placed directly with a smaller manufacturer can take awhile to appear-and if you didn't relish the expectation as I do it could be maddening.o.

Yes, good photos are worth a thousand words. I think many manufacturers use a kind of drawing/picturesque image for their figures, and results are not that good. Britains comes to mind. When I watch images of their figures from their website, I become thankful that real photos here at Treefrog can show me how good they really are. Also Little Legion photos on their website are not good at all, fortunately I now know first hand how good they look «in person».
On waiting, well, for me this has always been a waiting game...:D

Yes it certainly is a head scratcher isn't it. Fortunately for me when I started out I didn't know too much and the internet (Ebay) was new also so I was a bit dubious about spending so much money. I gathered a few books first from various sources, and due to this I probably have saved myself a small fortune. Having said that I have missed out on a few things as a I am not prepared to pay 50% and up of the current market value either.

the identical set sold minutes ago for 70.50 Sterling(still no Pound key on this keyboard). Was cheering for a similar finish(especially as I felt to have been a touch harsh about the photography).o.

It's a good price, Little Legions Napoleonics are a special treasure, maybe a little hidden...:p

I sometimes forget that I am located close to the only US LL dealer I am aware of. I will be looking at 2 large shelves full of LL Napoleonics at retail price tomorrow at the Toy Soldier Shoppe in Milwaukee. It really is nice stuff.

Yes, I will grab a couple of arm fulls and run for the exit. Or....I will take some photos to post....I already promised the Lt. I'd take photos of the LL Zulu stuff which also occupies at least one large shelf.

say isn't that the Toy Soldier Shoppe that carries Tommy Atkins? nudge nudge,o.

Yep,that's right,y'know y'know..are they goers?,o.

Here you go, my friend. Sadly, my camera was on a funny setting so I got fairly dark photos, but...

Here are some photos of the LL Napoleonics at the Toy Soldier Shoppe. Sadly, another shelf full was photographed but too dark to show. Good stuff, right?

Little Legion is a worthy successor to Trophy. Mike does figures that Len never did and the two go well together. It takes a long time to get your order from Mike though. Dave Thanks for posting those pictures. I was in Milwaukee in 1998 and never knew about Paul's shop. Too bad.
Regards
Damian
