Very interesting link indeed. I had previously assumed that Lysanders were used in this role.

I read in W.B. Kennedy Shaw's book that the L.R.D.G. had a lot of problems with the RAF getting permission to fly its own planes, and had to wait some time for the rondells on the wings necessary to fly without being attacked by allied aircraft. The LRDG Waco's were lifesavers, landing in the desert to fly badly injured troops to safety.
