Does anyone have a source for diorama backgrounds ? I am looking for one for a civil war display. I would like one at least 6 feet long and 12 to 16 inches high. It can be in multiple sections as long as they fit together to make one continuous scene. I see "Traverse Dioramics" carries a few. Has anyone used theirs ? Any help would be appreciated.

I have one of the Traverse ones and it's nice, although I haven't used it in awhile because I have the W. Britain's diorama base and background (which is out of production).

Build A Rama makes several backgrounds that may work with Civil War.

That's one large background.Check with Mike Miller.I think he uses Google photos and somehow puts them together but I don't know about something that big.Maybe Build-a-Rama or Traverse can make you a custom one.

One GREAT place to look is on EBay in the model Train sections. There are 100's of possibilities. Most are photo-realistic

I have purchased 3 from one vendor that are about 17" high and 5 feet or longer. They can come in a "mirror" combination which means that they can give you 10' to 12' of backdrop.

The cost per section varies but is about $24 for a single section or $36 for a double.

I also have the Traverse and it is really nice ... different but nice.

Paul...

your local "print shop" can produce endless/seamless strips of photographs for any backdrop photo you find...

they are ridiculously cheap too...

I just had them print me out a 4" x 1" color sky backdrop for $8...

you can either email them the link to a high resolution photo file you find from a Google search...for example a search on "desert sands" or a search on "cloudy skies"...or use one of their stock pictures if you like it...

when you do your search...use "high resolution" as a keyword in your search...or look at the properties of the photo and make sure it is pretty high resolution...

call your local print shop...ask them if they have "stock photos" that you can use...they can re-produce anything and print it very cheaply for you...

they can also photoshop the picture to change colors...remove or add clouds...etc...all types of changes to make you happy...

For small scenes, I search on Google and print it out, pose the scene and crop the photo, as with this one.

There are a few that are good but I have purchased most of mine from LULU ....... ya' LULU? Since I am big into the American Rev I go for the woods and fields so the Misty Forest (#1323 & #1323M) are great. Or you can get the double at a lower price #1323D. I also have the Mountain backdrop and an old town. I'll try to post some pic in the JJD Thread (War of 1812) and/or in the King and Country Thread (AWI) so you can see the effect. Good luck! -- Larry

Hi Paul,
Try JG Miniatures or Diorama as sources.
Cheers
