Hi Louis,
Haven't heard much, whats the latest on the K&C book?
Ray

Ray, I've got 4 of seven chapters of text written, and Larry found a book on another toy soldier company that he believes is the perfect format for our book on K&C, but I have not had time to work on the book in a while (I am basically working 7 days a week on my real job). I hope to get to finish the text in August (when things slow down business wise). My goal is to have a complete draft of the book done in time for the Chicago Show.

No progress to report. Still working 7 days a week, so I haven't done any writing. As soon as things slow down a little, I will get back to it, I promise.

Allright Ray,

No more excuses. I have no short deadlines this weekend, so as soon as I finish this post, I am starting on the Chapter on wood, metal and resin vehicles. When that is done, I will do the chapter on buildings and dioramas. I will report back when a chapter is completed.

Louis

Thanks Louis,
Don't mean to pressure you, we all have busy lives. I know I speak for K&C fans everywhere when I say we will buy and cherish your work as the "Bible " of K&C. You and your colaborators are the only ones qualified to assemble this work and the accolades to you all will be well deserved. Keep up the good fight.

I understand that the first book will be relating to older sets but I also was wondering if you will come out with a book on the present sets as well as other books picturing new sets and how they came to be etc.

Cheers
WELLINGTON.....:)
I know its a little early considering you havent finshed the first but just wondered if the idea has come up.

Ray,

As promised I wrote the (5th) chapter on wood, metal and resin vehicles. I also completely rewrote the (7th) Chapter on wood warbirds. Now I have 3 more chapters to write, matt non-WWII figures (4th), polystone vehicles & aircraft (6th) and buildings and diorama materials (8th). If I can make time again next weekend, I will write the (8th) chapter on buildings and diorama materials.

Wellington,

The book covers all K&C products from 1984 through when I finish drafting the chapter on the subject (at least into early 2006), so I think almost everything you are interested in should be covered.

Its 1:19 a.m., so I am finally going to bed. Goodnight gentlemen.

Louis,

Thank you for all the work on your book. I really look forward to reading the information you have so carefully researched and organized. I have no doubt that it will be a very valuable contribution to toy soldiering for years to come.

When your book is finally published, will it be possible to secure an autographed copy of it from you? I would love to own an autographed copy to include in my toy soldier library!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Dear Pat,

I will certainly be happy to autograph a copy for you and anyone else who asks. I just want to get my part (drafting the text done) and pass the book along to Hans and Larry for photography and formatting. Then it will be their responsibility to answer to Ray for the progress towards publication.

Warmest regards,

Louis

More good news gentlemen: co-author Larry Lo is working on Chapter 4 (matt non-WWII figures) and will do much of the research and writing on this chapter, enabling its completion in the foreseeable future as well. I have already forwarded Chapters 5 and 7 to Hans and Larry for editing, so the book is off the back burner and cooking again.

Louis, thanks for the reply to my post. I'm glad everything upto early 2006 will be included. I hope in the future a second edition will be released. Guess when the book comes out I will have to get you to sign mine as well.......:)

WELLINGTON

When I got home from work today, I started drafting Chapter 8. I am really locked in to writing at the momment.

Louis,

Thanks for all your work on this book. I also want an autographed copy. I know that balancing work and family can be difficult. So take the time you need and thank you again.

Old Guard

Chapter 8, on diorama displays, is finished.

Louis,

Congratulations on completing Chapter 8! You are really making outstanding progress. I have no doubt that your efforts will be well received and that they will constitute a great contribution to toy soldier literature. Thank you for all the energy you have expended in research and thank you for the commitment you have demonstrated in organizing information for those of us who collect toy soldiers!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thank you Pat, Wellington, Oldguard, Ray & all the other forum members who have encouraged Larry, Hans and myself on this venture. It has truly become a labor of love. With Larry working on Chapter 4, only Chapter 6 (polystone vehicles and warbirds) remains for me to research and draft.

I can't tell you how much I have learned while researching and drafting this book. In my hubris, I thought I knew pretty much what there was to know about K&C, but I have learned so much as I drafted each chapter. Picking through the old catalogues, price lists, and dealer dispatches has taught me so much about dates of production, item numbers, trends.

I guess I saved what has traditionally been my least favorite subject (polystone vehicles) for last. Its funny though, over the years K&C, Honour Bound and especially Figarti have so improved polystone production, adding metal details and improving the sculpting (particularly of the tracks), making this, actually, one of the most interesting topics for me to write about.

Louis we all appreciate the time and effort that you Larry and Hans have put into this book and eagerly await its release. It would be nice to have it released at next years OTSN and have the three of you plus Andy available to sign copies. A Special Limited K&C figure set of Louis,Hans and Larry could be released at that time which would make it even more unique. :p :p

I believe that, as a King and Country whack job (sure I'm not alone), this will be one amazing book and one that I will constantly turn to for reference. It will be so much easier to take the book to shows than carrying around all the brochures. I will be buying two, one to keep on the shelves, and one for constant use, which I'm sure will get dogeared pretty quickly.

I was actually brainstorming the other night, and I came up with this idea (which I haven't even mentioned to Hans & Larry yet, and which may not even work): When someone purchases the book, provide the person with a password to a website that would have a copy of the book online. Thus, anywhere someone who had purchased the book had a laptop, they could access the information online, and use their computer's search function to find specific references without having to look in an index. The could print out specific pages and not have to carry the book to shows and dog-ear it.

Anyhow, now that 6/8ths of the book is written, and Larry is working the 7th chapter, Larry, Hans and I need to start seriously editing the text and working photos into the format. For example, when I drafted the text, I gave detailed descriptions of each set, right down to the colors of the facing on the uniform and the type of webbing and gear each figure carries. Where photographs of the sets are provided, this type of detail should be deleted as unnecessary. Also the text has to be divided into columns which are formatted with breaks for photographs mixed into the text. While I will be handling most of the deleting of excess text, Hans & Larry will be responsible for the photographs and formatting. We all share in the editing process. And then their is selecting copies of the brochures for reproduction in an appendix.

So even once the text is finished we still have a ways to go. I would like for the book to be launched at the next (2007) Chicago Show, or, if its not ready by next September, at the March, 2008 N.Y. Symposium.

And I would love for Andy to made some kind of commemorative figure for the launch of the book. My thought would be a famous WWII military correspodent.
