Finally took out this never completed piece for over 30 years...:) It was painted according to the kit instructions. I'll probably stay largely with these colour schemes as there is nothing else on the web.

I added the scabbard to Louis XV. The position and angle had to be determined before I drilled the hole. I added some putty to lift up the skirt.

I further painted Louis XV.

I also painted the new base. Will be doing a typical Louis XV period carpet.

Very nice indeed! On a related royal note, I have been working on building my genealogic tree and was able to find my oldest ancestor on my father side born in France in 1631 and who died in 1731 at 100 years old which was unusual at that time (must be the French wine :smile2:). Anyway this means that he was born under Louis XIII, lived through Louis XIV's entire long reign and died under Louis XV!

Hi Zach and Grognard,

Thanks for your nice comments.

Interesting family genealogy and good family genes....
I guess you must be following the Versailles Netflix series. Allowing for all that artistic licentious nonsense, what drew me was the excellent repro costumes and the settings. When I walked thru Versailles a few years back as a tourist, most of the rooms were empty. So it was a treat to see them filled with period furniture. Hence I hope to do justice to the carpet.

On a separate thread, I am also doing a slight makeover of my Louis XIV Marie Therese piece. I also have Louis XIII and Anne of Austria. These were also part of the Le Cimier range of royal couples.

So here's the carpet all painted. I then fixed the figures onto it.
Almost done except to add a small handkerchief to Marie L left hand. She seems to be embroidering something.

Hi Grognard,

Thanks for your generous compliment. Wholly undeserved on my part. The kit was quite well sculpted and cast in its own right. As you saw, all I did was doodled some colours onto the pieces. One thing that I've learned was to be very patient and to paint neatly. This works especially for the lace period where everything was neatly done and ordered.

I touched up Louis' face and added some dark purple shadows under Marie L. I've added a small square of soft metal handkerchief. It was easily glued onto her left hand and draped. This was painted to represent embroidered linen. Finished this piece and added it to my collection after 30+ years!
