Military experts, I need your advice on the following questions:

1. Did THE CWT30 Chevy truck carried only 3 personnel
during their foray behind enemy lines?

2. How about the SAS Jeep, I saw some old films that it
was always manned by 3 personnel, is that a correct
representation?

3. Did these 2 vehicles operated in tandem during raids or
worked independently from each other?

4. Does anybody in the forum have a picture of the latest
KC Jeep Patrol (basis for the new KC SAS Jeep) side by
side with the Figarti SAS Jeep? I sort of like the Figarti
version of dismounted personnel. Hope to combine
them in a diorama.

Thanks a bunch

According to LRDG Intelligence Officer William B. Kennedy-Shah's magnificent book on the Long Range Desert Group, initially they often worked in tandem with the SAS, which did not have its own transport at first, as a "taxi service" bringing the "parashots" to and from the locations of their raids. Later they often still worked together on operations, in order to cause the most chaos at the same time behind Axis lines. As far as the crews of jeeps is concerned, I believe it was usually two: a driver and commander (at least based on the references in Kenendy-Shah's book, and the photographs I've seen. I think the trucks were crewed by 3, sometimes 4. There were also passengers, such as SAS or agents like Peniefski (of "Popski's Army" fame) being dropped off behind enemy lines. After raids, when vehicles were lost, you might see 6 or 8 men on a single truck, maybe more. Kennedy-Shah mentions one occasion when 17 men (several of whom were wounded) had to make it back 300 miles through the desert with a single vehicle. They took turns as passengers, and hiked alongside the slow moving vehicle, and although 3 got separated, they all made it back. Incredible men, the LRDG and SAS! As far as using K&C and Figarti together on a single diorama, it can be done, but the Figarti figures and vehicles are a smaller scale, and have to be set up far enough from K&C vehicles so this is not obvious.

The Figarti SAS Jeep doesn't work well with K & C: too small, which is why I sold it, and not a moment to soon.

Size isn't everything Brad! :D

On a related note i doubt the Figarti jeep is any less detailed than the K&C version and possibly more detailed. It'll be interesting to compare the two.

I still like the Figarti version because of it's action packed look and I like the K&C one too.

James,

The Figarti vehicle is a very fine vehicle as are all the vehicles they make. As I was packing it up this weekend, I was looking (and marveling) at how detailed it was. It's very well made. Unfortunately, it's not close in size to the Honeys, which fit in very well with the K & C models.

Brad, you are right about the Honey, i think it's size and quality fits in well with K&C EA figures.

Louis:

Thanks for the info.
