Just picked up a new copy of the English magazine, Military Machines International. One of their features is on restored LRDG trucks. With the current interest in DAK and 8th Army up on the K&C board, I thought some members might be interested. It's interesting to see these in color.

There are also atricles on armed Jeeps, the M151 MUTT in VietNam, the recent Oshkosh 8X8, etc. The magazines features nicely reproduced color photography. While restored vehicles are not always 100% accurate, it is fun to look at them to see good color photos about how the tanks and trucks probably looked.

That was a great article on the LRDG. I read it last night at the bookstore. I hope we get to see some of these vehicles come to life in our world of miniature.

I am presently re-reading William B. Kennedy Shaw's excellent book "The Long Range Desert Group" which includes a bunch of photographs of the various vehicles used by the group, but sadly in black and white. I would love to see color photos of these vehicles.

Hi
I have also started reading a book on the L.R.D.G ''providence their guide''
By David Lloyd Owen ,who was with the group for most of its existence
including comanding it from 1943 until it was disbanded.Once again though it only has a few photos, but all black and white.

William B. Kennedy Shaw was the intelligence officer for the LRDG. He makes frequent references to David Lloyd Owen in his book.

Hi
I,ll have to check out the book you mentioned when i,ve finished this one.
As with winter here now it,ll be the perfect chance to do a bit of reading [that and the copious quantitys of rugby to watch]
Another good book is ''Crete the battle and the resistance'' by Antony Beevor.
It covers the defeat in greece leading up to crete and the resistance after.

Lots of these running live at the war and Peace show in Kent in July - ww2 right up to pink panthers of the modern sas. You have already seen some of the photos.

Just watched a movie last night, which was not about the LRDG per se, but was about operating behind the lines in North Africa. I had seen it years before and couldn't remember its name: It is called "Play Dirty" and stars Michael Caine and Nigel Davenport. It is worth seeing although I don't know how accurate the vehicles were.

I'll have to try to grab a copy of the movie. Is it me, or is Michael Caine in everything?

Louis,

It is playing on cable TV on Showtime. Just went by it this morning.
