Hi All,

Great start to the new year. I am just easing my way back to my usual hectic modelling schedule. Starting off with refurbishing this old piece. It was gathering dust and mould(!) and the paint was dull. I cleaned it up and fully repainted it with artist oils to give it a nice sheen. A simple restoration job.

Hi Victor
Nice job - very well done, I like these more unusual subjects a lot. Good to see you back in "buisness" .
Thank you for shareing
Kind Regards

Hi Wolfgang,

Nice to hear from you. The figure is an old simple conversion of mainly Preiser nude parts, and I bulked out the stomach to indicate some form of malnutrition. For me, the characteristics of the Luo warrior to note are the large shield which is wrapped around the figure and the very long spear made out of straightened bent wire.

I am making yet another Luo warrior figure and will post him here when ready.

I have started on the next Luo Warrior. This one is riding a cattle for a funerary ceremony. The headdress is unusual.
So far I have made up the base, building it up with cork and wall putty.
The cattle has been knocked up from resin bits, and the rider is basically from preiser nudes.

Here's a pic of one of these Luo warriors. I sculpted most of the cattle and the headdress.

I changed the head pose of the bull to face the viewer (I removed the teats that's why its a bull). I also lowered the neck and resculpted the horns. I enlarged the headdress considerably.

This is another pic of a Luo Warrior riding a bull.

Hi All,

I sculpted the leopardskin and added hands to the figure. The bull was further bulked up and ears and a tail were added. The horns were trimmed down. Getting there.
I have made a long spear from brass tubing and wire. This will be rested on the right shoulder and balanced by the right arm.
Now comes the cleaning and then I start to add the white ostrich feather plumes.

I added the long spear to this figure. Some melted plastic is added to the right hand and I will carve this. Hooves have been added.

I cleaned up the piece and sprayed some white primer. Still some more sanding is required in areas before I add the ostrich feathers to the headdress.

Hello Victor,
this has got to be the most exotic figure of the entire forum - well at least it surely is to me ^&grin. Even though I got a rather long project list somehwhere up my mind I got to add this one to it as well. Absolutly fantastic so far - wonder how you will manage the feathers. I will follow each of your steps on this one.
Great work, thank you for shareing
Kind Regards
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,

thanks for your kind comments. See my other emerging threads on exotica and arcana...:)

I worked on the groundwork for this piece, as I was also doing several bases at the same time.

As I was clearing my worktable of too much clutter, I came across this forgotten piece and it was in pieces. So I've managed to reassemble it and it looks good to go again.

I've started to paint the piece in oils, starting with the headdress.

P1100961.JPG

I carefully dug this piece out from obscurity and after studying the piece, I scrapped off some defects (as seen in the first pic) and smoothed out the areas. I also added an overhang skin to the cattle neck (second pic).

I've decided to paint the cattle in a more attractive spotted scheme and hopefully, this is approaching the last stage of painting before I start to add the feathers.

I painted further on the markings, and attached the piece to its designated base.

Deciding that the markings weren't spot on :), I redid it again and added a piece of wire painted to look like rope. Notice the ambling and swaying gait of the cow from behind, not planned but I like it.
