Some background info -German name :Luchs. Built by Man and Henschel
100 were built between Sept 1943 and Jan 1944. The official name was: Panzerspähwagen II( PzKpfw II ausf L) a light recon vehicle on the panzer II chassis.
Other name : Sdkfz 123
The allies captured several of them in Normandy from the 116th Panzer Div.These vehicles fought in the Panzer-Aufklärungs- Abteilungen ( recon)and were affected to both Wehrmacht and SS panzer units. They served until the end of the war ;
The one on display in the Bovington tank museum belonged to the 116th. When it was repainted the turret number was changed from 4114 into 4121. The 116th fought in Normandy, the Hurtgen forest around Aachen and in the Ardennes in the region of Houffalize-Bertogne and between Hotton and Marche the so called Verdenne pocket.Hope this is useful.
