Hello all, I am currently working on another diorama entitled, Barnyard Ambush, this scene involves you guessed it, a barn! In this thread I am going to share with all of you how I am making a barn for the diorama, so follow along:D

Picture003.jpg
I am using a birdhouse from Michael's for this barn, it is neat and inexpensive, it only costs $10.00. Also you will need some planks to cover the outside, again these are also at Michael's in the Woodcrafts section.

Here is what I am using cover the outside walls..

With some good ole fashioned white glue and masking tape, I have started "planking the back of the barn..

In progress pic of the planks being attached..

More to follow!

Very nice Gus...that looks really good...I love scratch built models...keep me posted...I want to watch.

More pics...

Since this is a birdhouse, three sections of the roof are on hinges so you could remove the old nest or clean it out, but for us this allows easy access to the interior, I have decided to add some lofts and perhaps some stalls later on, lets check out the lofts..

Again I just measured some of the "planks" we are using and glued them on top of two beams made from square stock I bought at Lowe's...

Once the glue was dry, I installed the loft in the barn, I also made a smaller loft to add below the top window of the barn..

Then I made some support posts..

and added these for a more finished look..

More pics to come!! Since this is a work in progress, do check back for more pictures and updates to our barn project:D

Both lofts...

Top loft will be an instant sniper's nest!

More to come very soon!!

In addition to the barn, our diorama is going to also have another little outbuilding too...

Picture017.jpg
Again we are using another little birdhouse from Michael's, this one costs a whopping $1.00 and a bag of the sticks we are using to complete the barn..

Picture018.jpg
Another planking job has started!

Picture020.jpg
Finished with the planking, I will add some trim along the upper edges then I will add a door and shingle the roof and this little shed is ready for painting and weathering...

More to come folks!!:D

Excellent job, you get 100% for imagination and also for resourcefulness on the items you're finding at Michael's! I especially like the way you've outfitted the interior of the barn, very imaginative!

Prost!

That horrible looking door  will NOT be on the completed barn!!:D

Well the outbuilding is complete, I added the shingles, some trim work and a front door, this little building is ready to be painted and weathered...

Good Old Michael's!

Faster check-out lines and smarter staff than the local AC Moore.
I'm going to try the "batons". The Popsicle sticks are OK but you have to cut off the round ends before even starting.

Thanks for sharing Gus.

I see you have WW II figures but this building looks universal. Nice. I use a small nail to score some "grain" in the wood to accent the weathering.

You are so right Scott, this barn would look great with any era! I like the nail idea may have to use that suggestion:D

Very clever and artful project. Thanks much for sharing the steps. I look forward to the rest of this series.

Thanks for the awesome tip Scott, I am scoring the little building now and will post some updated pics real soon, the scoring makes it look even more realistic!!

I took a small nail and scored in the grain on the indivdual planks, THANKS SCOTT:D

Door detail, this is going to look great painted!!

I was concerned that the "grain" might look too big or out of scale on our models but look at the grain on this beautiful Britains Ltd barn.

Gus...

I like your work...

you're doing a great job...keep it up...it's fun to create...

I have made 3 stick buildings from scratch...

I really enjoyed the projects and ended up with one of a kind buildings...

you will find the more you do it...the better you will get at it...

Sott...who makes this barn kit...it's very nice and lends itself to many eras...
