Some photos of the scene being set for my SPQR thread where the story has moved to Judea, still some figures to place, Druid to convert to Priest and another Slinger, stock for the stalls to sell.

Really like what you create with these scenes Steve, lots of colours and the simple life aspect for the period. The figures move in around your works to compliment them. Lots of enjoyment here, making and setting out your display.:salute::, Robin.

Thanks Robin. Yep having a lot of fun as I make the facades, building and lots of bits and bobs. Even learning things as I go along when constructing a model house as I've not done one of those before and the facades which quickly helps setting the scene and easy to do and could be used up to modern day Middle East with a change of graffiti, which are google translations, so anyone who knows Latin or Hebrew please forgive any grammatical errors ! And of course the adding of TV Satellite dishes you see even on the humblest mud hut brings them bang up to date !

Great scene Steve. Is that graffiti on the wall of the building. I like the new series Britannia, what about yourself?Regards Greg.

Cheers Greg !

Yes, translations should read from left hand side to right.
In Hebrew above bricked up doorway, Donkey to rent and Rooms to rent. (kind of place Jesus might have been born in !)
Then in Latin: Donkey's to rent at back, one Denarius per day.
Daubed over with Roman dogs run ! And underneath (Hebrew) Cheap Donkey ****.
Above door, Cohen and Son.
Below, No Credit. Freedom for Judea. PFI (Peoples front for Judea ;) Nod to Life of Brian !) and early Christian symbol of a Fish !

Of course the beard seller bit of the Rebel Slinger is a nod to Life of Brian. He's a conversion from a Del Prado Slinger figure since no manufacturer makes Jewish Rebels, so with alteration to hair, (though first try at hair made him look like he was sporting a mullet !) and lengthening of tunic, both done with milliput and painted.

That's too kind for the Romans. Instead of saying what it would have said, lets be politically correct and just say " Take a hike " now and forever.
Regards Greg.

Yep I think the words would of been stronger than I've used !
Though I've only used Hebrew and Latin on this façade, I've also used some Greek on the other and will probably on a third I' ll make when I have time as I believe that Greek would of been used more than Latin in the East since there were a lot of what I guess you'd call, ethnic Greeks today were settled there in large numbers haven't researched why but guessing it had something to do with Alexander the Great and his Empire being devided up between his competing Generals on his death ?
Perhaps someone more accurate and informed can answer that !

Anyway the local Greeks then were a great deal to blame for the Revolt in 66 A.D. on top of a lot of other problems such as Rome demanding immediate payment from the Temple in Jerusalem of a huge sum in unpaid back taxes and the Jewish temple being profaned in Ptolemais and with great insults heaped on the Jews by the Greeks there.
There was also a pogrom against the Jews there, as well as several other cities with many being massacred as Greeks were in their turn by the Jews during the revolt presumably as revenge.

Life as they say back then was tough. brutal and often very short !
