I have read in the past how people wish that they had more tanks for a platoon, with some variation in the markings.

You can do this. Several companies make detailing AFV products which would be useful for K&C's work.

Verlinden makes some decals, dry transfers, & templates in 1/35, and Archer makes a whole lot of decals in 1/35. As you have seen on this forum & others, the results can be spectacular.

You need not think you are incapable of doing this. With a few pointers from the experts, and some practice on your part (on scrap at first!), you can do it.

I suggest you check out Verlinden & Archer websites.

Berlin slogans too

Verlinden even has a template for Nazi wall slogans that you can use to adorn your second chancellry wall section (if you purchased a second)

I often check out Verlindens stuff, they have some wonderful things on there.I am very tempted to give this a go,especially if we get some HB Shermans.

So 1/35 decals would go ok on K&C Tanks then.?

Rob

Absolutely.

OK, I only study the Eastern Front. So, I won't comment on the Western allies.

But as far as the Germans & Soviets are concerned, much of their markings were freehand painted. So there was variation. The Germans & Russians were not as regimented as we used to think. Paint shortages, time shortages, etc., played their part.

You are allowed quite a bit of flexibility when it comes to these two players. Paint for example: Pigment shortages on both sides. Panzer grey was common in the DAK, and DAK was common in Russia (1942). With the Russians, you could have a chassis painted in one shade of green, and the turret another. Or even white & green. You need not obsess with perfection when it comes to these two country's. There was none.

Look in the galleries over at www.missinglynx & www.tracklinks. Most of these model tanks are based on a photo. That can give you an idea as to the variation.

Excellant, thanks very much for your help.

I recall Ana indicated HB would make a tank available with different turret numbers upon request. So if you want to buy more than one of the same version that may be worth looking into.

I see,that would be good.Will check it out,thanks

Russian Tanks

One note about Russian tanks, be aware that there are two different types of slogans.

1) patriotic slogans ex. "Kill the Fascist Beasts!"

2) worker's names ex. "a gift from Grandfather Zaitsev"

#1 would be unique to any given tank

#2 would be identical to every tank in the unit

That's what I use. Sometimes if you are very careful you can sand off the markings or numbering without removing the color of the tank.
