I started on this more than 20 years back. Saw this in the grey herd and decided to lasso him out and finish the job. Note also the large curved Luo shield which I had made but misplaced when I was making my cattle mounted Luo warrior last year. Well, I'll start another thread for a standing Luo warrior separately.

Originally planned to be wearing leggings, I have decided to substitute Preiser legs for this figure. The pose was changed as well. Resculpting the horns and adding moccasins. Hands were added from Historex (I have a huge supply of these spares...) I am making a round shield separately.

Round shield being made. Roll out some putty, press flat and make a pancake. File all around.

I resculpted and filed the horns to match. The head shape and back of the pelt was sculpted. All Mandan work...

I attached the shield to the figure and inserted a thick wire to represent a tail.

Hi Matt,

Thanks. The wrap was easily done. Just wind some wire around the spear tip.

I mounted the figure onto its base at this stage before adding on the final details as I didn't want to handle the figure directly. The hair was further sculpted and feathers were added to decorate the tail.

Awesome job so far Blaster ! I admire your output !

Hi Markster,

Thanks again for your nice comment. I really enjoy sculpting and converting model figures. The range and breadth of the subject matter - costumes, cultures etc continue to bedazzle me and hence, I work on multiple projects at the same time.

I started to paint the Mandan figure, dotting the eyes and outlining the mouth.

I substituted metal strips to represent coloured fabric for the shield decorations. At the back of the moccasins, I have sculpted long furry tails.

Almost completed the painting on this piece. I added a piece of log wood and some groundwork.
