I am trying my hand at pink foam for small diaroma bases. Figured my first would be a FL and Tg Greeks, while moving them some fell of of a bar table I have, to land on a hardwood floor. As you can see from the carnage it was ugly. So these are not manufactured to withstand a four foot drop to hardwood floors?????:rolleyes2:
How dare the company's not make it shock resistant. And you can also see that, they also reached terminal velocity based on scale in comparison to a four foot drop. In case anyone wanted to do the math its true.

Now on a serious note what type of glue should I use to reattach head and one of the shields.
will super glue leave me with paint loss ? I think the musicians soul lies at the gates of thermoplae and he is done for this world.

No, they are not made for dropping 4 foot onto the floor ...... so you really need to be careful.

Older figures do not suffer the same trauma and that's because they were made with a higher lead content in the alloy, and so would tend to bend more, not break, but paint chips would occur. Modern ones are pewter which is more brittle, and so breaks.

But, the good news is that they can be repaired with Supa Glue and pins, but that will leave cracks and possibly gaps, so maybe some body filler then retouching the paintwork where chipped or cracked.

No, you musician is not dead, he just needs a good 'surgeon', in a very 'special hospital' :) then he can blow his own trumpet :)

John

Note: I do repairs, but for you in the US, the cost of transport 'down under and back wouldn't be worth it!

I have a person who does all kinds of repairs and will make yours look like new. He has done repairs for many people here. His name is Mike DeMarco and you can read more about him under the Services section. If interested, please contact me.

Mike has done work for me and the result is always fantastic!

Thanks for the help as always.
I was going to just buy another one.
I will look into the cost of repair. I have had a bent bayonet before and a paint chip but three at once stung

Clean the break areas with alcohol. Apply a small drop of Super Glue and push the broken pieces together. Use the gel type Super Glue as it is less likely to run onto painted areas. Acrylic paint from Tamiya is best for touch up of paint chips. A wide range of colors are available in flat, gloss and metallic. Works great on Pewter or plastic i.e. polystone, styrene etc. Available from Amazon or any hobby shop.

Mike is top shelf; if he can't fix it, no one can.

If you don't want to go that route, use Locktite glue, comes in a blue bottle and you can get it at Home Depot; NOT the gel, the liquid version, it works on every break possible, swords, bayonets, heads, arms, shields, DO NOT use super glue or crazy glue, it's hot garbage compared to Locktite.

Thanks guys,
I think I will try to fix the two myself, and make a decision on the other based on cost.
The thing about this site is how helpful its been over the years. I did not have internet access at work till recently
(field) so I just couldn't contribute to the forum much, but I am trying to add more content.
So I am really grateful for the help.

Now that at least deserves a round of applause. Well done TGM!

To The Thomas Gunn Team,

Mine,as well as my wife's initial response when I read her your post was "no that's not right, its not their fault it fell."
And its not, It is above and beyond normal business practice. And I likely would have turned down your offer had my wife not said
"Hey don't you always say you don't really bargain hard at the show (OTSN) because these guys don't manufacture for money They do it cause they love the hobby." Yes "well then they wouldn't have done if they didn't want to"

So I thank you, and I will gladly pay shipping because I was going to buy another horn blower regardless due to the damage and I had already ordered a different Tg Greek from TF the night it happened to fill in the space while I figured out if I could repair one or two. Just waiting for it to be shipped when a pre order comes in. Now I can try to fix one without worry about how bad I'm going to butcher it.
And thank you for getting the humor of the "malfunctioning defect" post about your product.

I will send a email with shipping info for postage calculations.
Gratefully
Chuck

gotta love these guys!

You're kidding, right?

Just because it’s toys doesn’t mean it’s not a business from which people earn their livelihood. If TG and other manufacturers (not to mention dealers) couldn’t make a profit, they wouldn’t be in business.

I’m sure they love what they do but they also sent you a replacement because it’s good customer service and good business, not because of some altruistic reason.

No I am really not kidding,
I negotiate for a living at a pretty high level and will not leave money on the table. And yes while I understand the manufactures do make a profit I just don't see it as the be all end all for most of these guys. So at the show I have never went full on in seeking a discount, Yes I'll ask for something small but I am aware there is more money to be taken off if I ask a little harder. But I have talked to enough of these small manufactures over the years to know they are not living large on toy soldier money. And the more money in the hobby the better.

I understand your point about TG making the offer, that it wasn't the heavens opening up, but I will say I do find it altruistic do to the fact that, the product was paid for, it was purchased thru a dealer instead of direct, I am not a know large customer of theirs, and the damage was complete customer error. ( I crashed my new mustang into a tree, I wouldn't expect ford to fix it for free) However that is what TG did and they had no obligation, they could have offered a discounted figure, they could have said oh sorry that sucks. They instead covered the cost of the shipping fee and gave away product for free, for at the most, to be seen as doing something as a business reputation builder.
I am grateful for that and find it amazing.

Chuck

or put it another way
Yes I know there is not unicorns pooping rainbows and gumdrops above my head, but when it comes to toys soldiers I think I just try to leave the money aspect out of it.
Otherwise I have to justify the money spent that could have bought a good used porsche.
Chuck

LOOK I magically repaired them.
Or Thomas Gunn was kind enough to send me some free.
Thanks again to the TG Team it was above and beyond.
Chuck

TG was very gracious with its gesture to replace broken toy soldiers. You should try it sometime!
