I mentioned that I had a figure of this lady from a Historex kit. I cleaned up the kit and looked for a suitable picture of her to start the project.

Historex really produced some nicely detailed figures, and this one is no exception. I look forward to seeing your work on her, Vic!

Prost!

Hello Brad,

Yes. I love the Historex range. I was quite lucky to have stumbled onto this picture as the Historex instructions gave a rather blandly coloured dress. It is quite obvious that the Historex piece was based on this painting. I might ring in some changes to the final figure to make it more like the painting.

I added putty to the dress to make it flare out. The forehead and hair was remodeled.

Looking back at your reference again, I am excited to see this when you start painting. Are you going to use the same colors the painter used? I think they will make a striking figure.

Prost!
Brad

Hello Brad,

Yes I intend to stick to the same colours in that painting. Just cleaning up the figure a bit before I start painting.

I've started to paint the figure. Dabs of paint here and there. Also will be reworking the shoulder area.

I finished converting the shoulders and have painted more of the dress.

I like how you built up the colors on the floral pattern for her dress, Vic.

Prost!

Hello Brad and all,

Thanks for your comment. Note the impasto oil paint applied to the floral motifs. I further shaded in Payne's Grey and also highlighted the dress with iridescent white paint.

While waiting for the figure to dry, I have started to work on the robe.

Hello JB,

I ran out of steam...

Actually I was painting in yellow ochre with white, not gold. The blue has dried quite shiny, giving the impression of a glossy effect not intended for this piece. If you look at the lower left part of the blue robe, you may notice that I have "dulled" tested a portion of the robe with Testors dullcote. It works. So I am finishing the full painting before coating with this varnish.

And I have finished painting all the fleur de lys on the robe! We painters ought to get a life! The embroiderers of these type of robes ought to get a life too!

Now for the other half of this Historex pairing. Louis XV looks OK. However, sideways, the figure looks a little flat. So I took him by the left leg and added putty to bulk out the torso. I also recreated some of the sculpted details and added a sword, ribbon and baton from Historex parts.

I painted Louis XV and drilled glued him to the base. Epoxied Marie and cape to the base too. Minor touch ups and then I am done.

From the original art to completion.
A lot of time and effort well rewarded.
The base works very well.
Congratulations and Thank you.

Hello Ivanhoe,

Thank you for your very kind and generous comments. I like working with Historex figures as their basic figure designs are superb. Their modular approach provides excellent starting material to fabricate unique new figures and poses.
