On July 6, 1685 the young John Churchill, the future Duke of Marlborough led Royalist Forces against James Scott, the Duke of Monmouth, the illegitimate son of Charles II who was leading a rebellion (Monmouth's Rebellion) against his uncle James II in the hopes of replacing him as monarch. Churchill and his men achieved a decisive victory that day at the Battle of Sedgemoor. Among the forces under Churchill's command was the 1st Regiment of Guards. The W. Britain figure (44030) in front of the 1685 portrait of Churchill represents a Grenadier Officer - 1st Foot Guards - 1685. He is shown preparing to throw a grenade.
