Got this piece from EK castings. Billed as a Marshal of France but obviously representing Grouchy.

Starting to move on some of these Russian castings. I am using the painting practice run to build up to some more ambitious projects, I hope.

Worked on the face and the basic uniform colours.

Hello Malcolm,

What a lovely surname. You must be heir to a huge toy soldier collection...:)

I agree that some of the EK sculpts and castings are pretty good. I usually use humbrol enamels or various acrylics as undercoats but overpaint with artist oils. My primary interest is to convert/sculpt and paint my own figures.

Hello Victor

I should be so lucky! Britain is both where I live and also one of my favourite brands of glossy figures.

Thank you for sharing your paint secrets. I was going to say oils as you had mentioned burnt umber and there was a sheen on some areas of the figure. You can certainly achieve stunning results with oil paint but you do need to have artistic skills to deliver them which you obviously have.

Really enjoying seeing your work in progress. It is always an education to see figures being progressed no matter what materials etc are used. There is always something to learn and admire.

Keep up the good work. It is much appreciated

Best regards

M

I also added a rustic fence prop to this piece. I added dullcote to matt the shiny green tunic.

I decided to doodle further on this piece, working to intensify the highlights and shadows.
