What do you get when you combine a manufacturer of military statues (Khaki Army) with a dealer who also happens to be an ordained Lutheran minister (Pete Reuss of Treefrog Treasures)? A stunning, 1:6 (12" tall) replica of 'the man' who single-handedly started the Reformation...Martin Luther! With the 500th anniversary of the Reformation coming in 2017, the time was right to honor this significant historical figure. In hanging the 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg Castle church on October 31, 1517, Martin Luther intended to open a discussion within his Roman Catholic Church. Instead, those words created a firestorm which opened the door for many other Christian reformers to walk through.

This bronzed cast resin replica is based on the statue made by Ernst Rietchel in Worms, Germany and replicated in Lutheran seminaries and colleges all over the USA, including Wartburg Seminary, Luther College, and Concordia Seminary (St. Louis). It represents Luther at the 1521 Diet of Worms, where he had been brought to recant his writing and teaching. Instead, he boldly proclaimed:

"Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen"
