MasterBox 1/32 Napoleonic Series. (1 Viewer)

Thanks Victor for that link.

I have to say that whether they are true 1/32 or 1/35 doesn't really worry me much.

It is interesting that Masterbox are releasing these and hopefully there will be more to follow. I have a few orphan kits of similar periods (Dragon ACW union troops and some ICM Prussians from the Franco-Prussian war). Nothing really came of these kits in the way of a series of kits to follow.

When I was first into figures in the early eighties there were lots of modellers converting Airfix Collectors Series and Historex kits. Napoleonic modelling was popular and a look through Mil Mod magazines of the era and modelling books covered the Napoleonic era thoroughly.

It is difficult to see this sector of the market re-appearing but full marks to Masterbox for producing these. There must be a few figure modellers still out there!

I picked up both these kits a while back and am now starting on the Red Lancer. As per Victor's comments these are very much 1/35- I have placed a New Hope Dutch Lancer in one of the images and it towers over the horse and the little lady.

I am intending to base them in a glass covered dome as shown and intend to put bases on the figures that can be removed from the main base, the same as John Firth does with his bases. It looks simple enough to do with a dirt road, however I wish to make a cobbled streetscape.

Any of the diorama maker's have any ideas as to how to go about this?

I could go the lentil route but it make look odd at the edges. Any ideas?

Hi Scott,

Despite the description of scale, these kits measure 1/35. There is a size comparison on another website for your ref.

That's interesting that the figures scale out to 1/35, considering that MasterBox has a catalog of 1/35 kits as well. I wonder how they wound up scaling these kits on the small side. Of course, they're still very nice kits.

Prost!

I actually had a discussion on the Napoleonic range with the owner of MB a few years back when this was first announced. At that time, I thought it was terrific that these kits could be fully compatible with Airfix and Historex.
The reality is that the company's focus is only on 1/35 scale.

Just returning to this thread. Other matters have been occupying time lately so have returned to this project over Christmas.

I ended up painting the base and using a laser cut cobblestone sheet made by a company called Reality in scale. They seem to be focused on 1/35 scale which suits these figures well. The cobblestones look correct and the drain is finely cut (whether drains of this type existed at the time I am not sure). I have been painting the female figure with the water jug as well.

Working on the Lancer now.
