Great - looking foreward to that.
Has anyone had any feed back from JJ regarding which material he will be using for his flags?? I believe his second Scottish flag was not up to standard ! :(

Personally, I thought the second flag was ok, in my display cabinet it looks fine. At the London Show JJ mentioned that he is thinking of reverting to metal. In my humble opinion there is a weight and balance issue always with metal flags.

Completely agree about the resin flag. It is the same in appearance and is much lighter, thus doing away with the balance problem. I hope JJD stays with the resin. -- Al

Yes I have both Jacobite flag bearers and I would recommend sticking with the resin flag. The one with the metal flag I had such a problem making him stand up on my grass mat. Resin was no problem worked perfect and still looks as good.

I have both versions as well, and also prefer the resin one, as they look the same, and the resin version is more stabile!

This below....

was from an earlier post...

In a recent message from John...

concerning the upcoming flagbearer figure BCH09...

the new BCH09 will be a metal flag...not resin as was the JR10...

John said...

"There was no reason to change the flag on BCH-09 to resin.

I do have a new Jacobite standard bearer which will probably be a resin flag, since it is a more dynamic pose…. And is also already in production. I will try and make it clear in future if there is any change to the material used in the manufacturing."

so...apparently...the pose of the figure may dictate whether it will be resin composite or metal...

if the figure is released in a less stable...or "more dynamic" pose...it may be a resin flag...and he will try to tell us in advance before purchasing...

Trust me on this one...
Resin flags make a lot of sense as it allows the designer to create more dynamic poses for this type of collectible. Why they should be in metal is more in the mindset of collectors.
You would never know what material it was made out of after it is painted anyway. Depending on the resin used, the detail can be even sharper if there is sculpted in detail.

and for the record...I don't care if they are resin or metal...they both seem the same in quality of painting to me...so I will let John decide whichever material works best for each individual figure.

Ken...

I'm curious...and you probably know...

1) the cost of resin as opposed to metal...is there much of a difference in price to the manufacturer to produce...

2) also does the resin have a tendency to break easily or is it pretty durable...I have had no problems with my resin flags...but I'm just asking...are they pretty durable...

on a side note...

John also had told me that the factory was now charging him for a two piece cast also on flag figures...(the flag and the figure) increasing his production cost...

Hi Mike

I'm glad I made that comment - I have yet to purchase the resin flagbearer but I have only read comments from forum members that did not appear to like this - as an expert on JJ products, Mike I'll take notice of your comments and order my model a.s.a.p. thks

Frank...

I don't think you will be disappointed at all...when you pick it up...you will of course notice a difference in weight...but on the shelf...you can't tell one from the other...at least I can't...

I do have a little trouble with some of the metal flagged figures balancing steady on an uneven terrain...

but to be honest...I have a little trouble balancing a lot of figures on grass mats...

John's flags are huge...and a very thick metal too...very heavy...

I do remember that when speaking to John about them...he said that they have not had any incidents with the resin flags on breakage...

I think he will determine which sets will contain a metal flag and which sets will be resin flags...

I also seem to recall that he would try to announce the status of the material used in any flag bearer set...so the buyer can beware if it doesn't suit them...

Hi Mike
Thks for the inof. I've really have no problem with JJ's flags - (could do with more) I have decided that the cost of trying to keep up with collecting is now beyond my reach, so I have decided to collect flag bearers. Kand C, JJ's conte and any other manufacturer that displays flag bearers. However you would think there was a market for just flag production. Shenandoah Miniatures here in Australia produce their own very limited tin/etched flags for their ACW series. Perhaps tin is the answer for future flags - light and flexible?
What do you think.?

The material cost can vary considerably depending on either the type of resin used or the metal alloy. A high Tin content white metal alloy will cost more and the raw material prices here fluctuate.
A good Urethane resin as opposed to a Polyester resin will help minimize damage from impact.

What I like about the resin flags is the stabilizing effect of the metal figure. This makes them less likely to tip over. Trust me here... I have an old home with single layer flooring over the joists. Sometimes you can see figures shake if I walk to fast or close to a cabinet.

Flags are always expensive and a complex design can really run the manufacturing price up... and in the end, the point of purchase or retail price.
With this said however, I think there is still a great value in the predecorated collectibles offered today. I have bee painting my own figures since grade school and almost everything on the market today is rather inexpensive compared to the time it would take to paint your own.
I think all collectors should give painting a try to understand what it takes to bring various levels of decoration to the market. It is fun too, so the worst that could happen is to find that you actually enjoy painting your own figures!

John's trip must have really put him behind schedule...I was sure we would get the May releases by now...usually posted on the 10th or 12th at the latest...I know he shipped this months deliveries late...on the 12th...hopefully tomorrow we will get to see the new releases.

How inconsiderate of him, I've got some available credit left this month to spend.

This is sad...

we're all just sitting here...

chomping at the bit to spend our money.:p
