This forum has quite an impressive number of registered members.
Currently we are at a membership number of 2700+

Since I registered in 2007 I always found the discrepancy between forum members and users (actually posting every now and then) surprising.
My thoughts are, once I register on a forum, I should participate in some way.

I am on here daily and do post every now and then on a matter of my interest.
Thinking about numbers, in my opinion there aren't more than roughly 100 members posting frequently (members you see again and again).
What are the other 2600 doing?

Did they just register to have a more convenient reading of the forum?

Wonder what any other active posters think about it?

one thing I wish any and all members would do...

is to include their name at the bottom of their posts...

I hate responding to someone's handle...it seems so impersonal...

those who don't know this...you can add your "signature" to all your messages through your profile tab...

Just as it has always been. There is the silent majority and then there are the rest of we blabbermouths.^&grin -- Al

Not sure how the spammers are counted. They may be included in the member total. I have seen a few of them that just post some advertising every few months.

That's a good idea. The HZ Forum requires that, partly to help ID spammers, too, but to remove that anonymity. I'd support implementing it here.

Prost!

I think there are a lot of members registered who aren't in the hobby anymore but didn't resign, some have passed away, others who don't post much and some who don't come on it that often.
I have one friend who joined as he started collecting the large figures but has basically sold off his collection and kind of went back to the smaller figures that he use to paint. He also has been trying to start his own line but I haven'y heard from him in a while as he is very busy.

Hi Guys,

We try very hard to hunt these types down and once they are identified they are removed. All their posts and info is removed by the Administrator, aka Shannon. So they dont count toward membership.

For me, work gets in the way. I get the odd chance to check in now and then. There are a lot of posts that I read. I don't always have anything to add. I am constantly amazed by the talent people have on this board.

I wonder of all they people who post a lot, how many are retired and have the ability to spend time on the forum. Al ( lancer) is the only one I know face to face and he is retired. I look forward to retirement.

There is quite a difference between do something on a voluntary basis and making it a requirement. I really don't see that it matters and the fewer the requirements the better.

Some folks might behave better, if they weren't quite so anonymous, for one thing. For another, it's a tactic to cut down on spammers. In the case of Conny's forum, forcing using the signature in that way helped flag new users as spammers, rather than as serious users. On the other hand, there are issues with having our personal info so readily available. No one's actually proposing it, though, so it's not really something to worry about.

To Konrad's original point, though, about the contrast between registered members and active users, I could see culling the least active/most dormant users, especially if the administrative cost in resources is high to maintain such an expanded list.

Prost!
