MEMORIAL DAY TRIVIA---actor Audie Murphy was one of the most highly-decorated US soldiers in World War II and received every combat honor for valor available by the Army. Murphy's Medal of Honor was awarded after his unit was attacked by German tanks and infantry. Murphy boarded a blazing M10 tank destroyer and fired its machine gun at the attacking Germans for over an hour until he ran out of ammo which resulted in 50 Germans being killed or wounded. Although wounded, Murphy then led his men to repel the enemy attack.
His honors include the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Legion of Merit, Silver Star (two), Bronze Star (two) and Purple Heart (three).
