Good Day to All!
As Memorial Day approaches, I find myself thinking of the cost that was shed by are honored dead. I would like to share some quotes that I think are very meaningful in remembering the sacrifice:
The first quote comes from Ronald Reagan's address at Omaha Beach, June 6th, 1984, "It is enough to say about Private Zannata and all the men of honor and courage who fought beside him four decades ago: We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
The second quote comes from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, "The brave men, living and dead, who struggled, here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but can never forget what they did here. It is for us, the living, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they have, thus far, so nobly carried on. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
The third quote is from Lincoln's "Bixby" letter, "But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."
And lastly I thought this video was a great, and the song's words show the sacrifice of our honored dead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRv7PXU-l2E
Hope you all have a good Memorial Day,
Vick
