Does anyone have a good source for metal bases? I'm after two types; the traditional rectangular toy soldier style and the oval, textured bases like those used by William Britains, etc.
Not sure you will find any at all. You could cast your own bases in white metal, using plastic sheet masters or cut the rectangular ones out of aluminum, steel or tinplate (1 mm).:salute::
I got some from a company that makes metal bases for wargaming, War Games Accessories. Owner is Jeff Lista, website is www.wargameaccessories.com. I got 2 bags of the FS bases, which are 1"x1 1/8". It's a good size for single figures from 1/35 through 1/30.
The bases are steel, so if you want to drill holes to pin things to them, you'll need bits for drilling steel and other hard metals. But I love these bases! I was cutting copper roof flashing stock, and got tired of doing that. I recommend these highly.
As far as oval bases are concerned, I can't help you other to suggest wargaming suppliers for something such bases there, too. Maybe War Games Accessories makes oval bases; I didn't check.
