I guess I put this here, in the Modeling section?

I have a 54mm WW1 fieldpiece, the gun shield has come loose from the carriage. I have some two part metal epoxy which seems to bond well between some bolts and washers in a test run.

Or, do folks find it easier to use a soldering gun and solder?

Just thought I'd ask here first, I'd like it to go back together with less mess, and be sturdy like it used to be.

Thanks!

:)

I find that soldering is difficult with model soldiers as it's easy to get the iron too hot and melt more than I intemded. Thus, I use either two-part epoxy or superglue.

I would not use a soldering iron, if I were you, unless you were very, very experienced and confident in the use of that tool. But as Al mentioned, it is very easy to wind up melting a piece.

I would use the 2-part epoxy, myself. That's what I use to assemble metal kit figures, 2-part epoxies, and also CA glue (cyanoacrylate, aka super glue), depending on the job.

Hope that helps, prosit!

Like both the previous comments, I also use glue and do not solder.

If the part doesn't have a good join, or it is load bearing, I may also drill and pin then glue.

I use Supa Glue for most joins, and 2 part epoxy for large pieces.

Thanks Gentlemen!

And now I see i posted in the wrong section......sorry folks!

I experimented with the epoxy, let it set past the 5-6 hours for about 24, it looks TIGHT!!! Very happy with the stuff!
