I made some US Mexican War troops to "play" with from Armies-In-Plastic Confederates and heads from the new A-I-P Landwehr.

Thank you! You use the AIP Confederates w/o blanket rolls, add a bayonet scabbard on the figures left side, remove the percussion cap pouch and a add a Landwehr head.

Thanks for the photos of your conversions Scott. The figures look great for that time period. Leadmen

Must have taken you ages to convert all these, have you considered a step by step thread showing how you do this? It would be most interesting.

Thanks

Jeff

I don't have any un-made right now. Let me take another picture and I'll lable the conversions. They will have a "Toy" look as I think that many AIP figures resemble plastic versions of old Britains hollow cast figures and that's kind of why I like them.

AIP are very robust. One can count on the figures to replicate the same poses. I have quite a few of them. One needs a lot of white glue for primer. Do you make a casting for the heads or do you just lop them off other figures? That can be expensive don't you think? Where do you get the bayonets?

The heads are off of "useless" poses or extra officers. I usually buy AIP when they offer a buy one get one free sale. The newer 20 packs have 24 in 8 poses and I don't know why they don't say that. Figures with bayonets have them already. Seeing them up close in the photos, they do need more finishing such as filling the joints and mold ejector knockout marks. I really didn't want to try grafting flintlock muskets onto these as the percussion lock is clunky looking enough to "pass" for me. The 3 standard CSA set poses are the ones without blanket rolls. Maybe I can get some spare packs from other set.The standing firing figure is "Dramatic" and the kneeling loading figure originally has a goofy backwards kepi. Those of you who fully paint and don't sweep you troops into plastic bins when done, could paint some nice looking US Mexican war troops from AIP figures. I'm thinking of the AIP French Napoleonic troops with trousers and forage caps as Mexicans.

Barzso does make some Mexican War regulars, how well do they fit together with your conversions?

Let's see Conte New Orleans Grays, AIP Conversions, and Barszos...

Looks to me that Bartzso and AIP go pretty well together, Conte's are a little thick, but not totally out of scale. some would certainly be passable, especially the kneeling guy.
