This new book by David Reynolds about the writing and reaction of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe was reviewed in yesterday's New York Times Book Review and can be accessed here.

When Lincoln met Stowe, he allegedly said to her something to the effect of so you're the person responsible for this war. Probably more apocryphal.

Good article. Well worth the read. Many years ago, I was fortunate to have been able to purchase the second printing of the book, along with Stowe's autograph. Also interesting to read about Stowe's Paris sojourn in David McCullough's "The Greater Journey."
