I'm not sure if this has been asked before. If so, please direct me to the thread.

I will be attending the December toy soldier show and thought I would also check London militaria/antique shops for soldiers. Does anyone know any such shops in London?

One of the best Toy Soldier Shops I've ever been to is the Guard's Museum Toy Soldier Shop (located directly adjacent to the Guard's Museum), which carried just about everything (Trophy, Toy Army Workshop, King & Country, Tommy Atkins, etc.). Another excellent shop in London is the St. James Armoury (mostly Frontline and Russian figures, and a lot of cool military memorabelia).

Louis,
I'm planning on visiting the London Show in December 2008. Thanks for providing some other real "Must See" places.

Best Regards

I loved visiting London for the Toy Soldier Shops, the Imperial War Museum, the Tower, the London Theater, Scotts (a wonderful seafood restaurant where I had the second best meal of my life), but a trip to the UK just wouldn't be complete without some time spent in the company of the Nevilles of K&C, UK. Some seriously wonderful people who have a standing invitation to stay at my house anytime they decide to cross the pond. Enjoy your trip, Harry. I wish I could find the time and money to join you, but little Ashley has dibs on both for the momment.

Thanks Louis. I have these on my list. I recall another I visited in the early 1980s near Victoria station but I don't recall the name.

Here's one I found on Google.
Portobello Arms & Armour Shoppe:

117 Portobello Road (Vernons Yard). One of the most interesting shops in the area with a good selection of armour, weapons and military curios. Also, military uniforms, hats, medals, buttons, Russian hats, stamps, coins, badges and paper money.

I think you mean real Militaria antiques don't you??????? OR TOY SOLDIERS?

WELLINGTON

I can recommend four excellant War museums in London, one better than all the others!;)

Yes Wellington, I was thinking of militaria shops generally, since they might also carry the odd toy soldier. However, I'm also interested in other militaria too - military prints for example.

Rob, Besides the Imperial War Museum and National Army Museum, what are the other two you are thinking of?

Look forward to meeting you in London at the Show.

Will you have chance to go further afield? Bovingdon Tank museum, Vimy Ridge memorial and the Newfoundland Park on the Somme (Canadian) are only a few hours away?

I was thinking of HMS Belfast and Churchills Cabinet War rooms, both part of the IWM.Also there is the Britain at war experience, well worth a visit.:)

Rob,

Good idea bout HMS Belfast, haven't visited that yet. I have been to the War Rooms but that was 10 years ago, may be worth another visit. All my meetings are on Whitehall so I will be in that area anyway.

I wish I had more time. I have always wanted to visit the Bovington tank museum, but I am travelling at taxpayers expense so was just lucky that the soldier show is happening at this time.

The War rooms have recently opened a new wing of the museum that has a great Churchill museum in it.Bovington is wonderful but a long way from London.

Bovington is a must-see for anyone visiting London. Its only around a 2-hour drive from Heathrow - and you can receive Capital Radio all the way there and back. Mega-good vibes.
Cheers

Good tip on the Churchill wing of the Cabinet Rooms - will visit.

I will have to see if I can fit an afternoon in for Bovington, although I doubt I will have time since I'm not in control of my schedule.
