Military Rank (1 Viewer)

Is it possible to change mine to Navy Rankings?

There's an explanation of the ranks here. The existing ranks are US Army ranks. I suspect that they're stored in a record (in technical terms, a validation table) somewhere in the forum database. It might be possible to add Navy ranks to the record, but it would probably be necessary to add a function to recognize any forum member's profile as Army or Navy, and then show the appropriate ranks. That's just my estimated guess, as an IT person.

Prost!

YES SIR!!!!!:salute::

But seriously Jazz, I remember seeing someone on the forum who had Navy ranks. But I can't remember his name.

In all seriousness Joe I think that if you write Pete or Julie, they may be able to accommodate you.

Likely CPO Sharkey

You are a dog sir..........LOL^&grin:redface2:, I've never been so had in my life. It certainly was familiar and had to check IMDB to find that CPO Sharkey was a sitcom with Don Rickles that I watched. However, there was someone on this forum who had Navy rank.

Brad, thanks, I'll give them a shout.

I know that an administrator can lock your forum rank, which some have asked for. I'll be curious to know if the system can be updated to use Navy ranks, too, or if it has to be done manually, and changed as the forum member accumulates more posts and is "promoted".

I think you can opt out of having a rank shown, too.

I recall Shannon explaining that it was just a fun way to show everyone's tenure in the forum.

Prost!

Yes Brad, I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment that it's a fun way to show tenure. And if what I'm asking isn't possible, then by all means it's fine to keep the army ranks. Now excuse me a second while I wretch my Naval guts out.................:tongue:^&grin{sm2}{sm4}:salute::

Would you prefer to go by "Seamen" or "Seamen first class"

ARMY ALL THE WAY! :) :)

Hi Chris, yes I assume Seaman would be the E-3 equivalent to Private First Class. From there the promotions would be Petty Officer 3rd Class, PO 2nd, PO 1st, CPO, etc. I contacted Peter and Julie and am waiting for reply. And as I said I'm fine if it can't be done. I just thought it would be cool, but I don't wish to make any waves.:rolleyes2:^&grin GO NAVY!!

Just to thrown a 'spanner in the works' .... if it can be done for Navy ... what about Air Force too ... just to keep it fair ???

But if that's achieved, I'm sure that the Marines would be like to be included too :)

Then ......what about other 'Foreign (to the USA) Forces' ???

I do realise that that by joining a US based Forum, we do become 'Honorary Members of US Treefrog Army' and so I fully accept my rank and it's promotion scale, so I'm no fussed :)

John
2nd Lieutenant (same rank as in the Australian Army) ^&grin^&grin

John that did occur to me, but opted not to mention it because i already opened a possible can of worms. I haven't heard back from Peter or Julie, so I'm now considering the point moot.{sm2}
