Some work-in-progress pictures of our upcoming shophouse models. There will be 2 beautiful designs, carefully replicated from real-life, down to the intricate Peranakan art deco style panels. These will definitely tie together our Singapore / Malaya Heritage scene when displayed with the figures.

Shophouses are architectural and heritage icons in Singapore, and were built as far back as the 1900s. More about the history of our shophouses here: https://roots.sg/learn/stories/singapore-shophouses/story

Our shophouse models will have in-built led lights to brighten up the interior.

The scale is a little large isn't it compared to KC and the rest of the legacy toy soldier products being offered, or is it?

The new buildings look great and should be usable for Vietnam War era urban scenes.

I returned from a trip from Hanoi and Saigon in 2016 and this building looks perfect.

I noticed on your site civilians and a prototype rickshaw (bicycle version).

Impressive and perfect for the 1960s Vietnam War dioramas; it just takes a little imagination and there's plenty of that among the collectors here.

Vietnam War figures are popular now and this building and maybe another (if you make a second building) might be popular.

Question: When will this building be available and you post a picture of a KC figures along the building prototype?

Thank you and good luck,

Carlos

Thanks for showing us the Shop House, I just love the use of the LED lighting, it looks so realistic, especially the paper lanterns on the top floor.

Looking forward to see the completed painted building, so keep on posting images :)

Thanks,
John

Hi Carlos

Thanks! Happy to hear that you like it! Definitely stay tuned for our trishaw figure set. It's a beauty, and you will not be disappointed with the final product. ^&grin

Not to worry about the difference in scale with KC figures. Yes, technically we are 1/26 scale and they are 1/30. But both our collections actually look fine when displayed together.

What we have found when we started producing figures, is that the scale is usually not 100% accurate. And if it's just a matter of 1/26 VS 1/30, usually the difference is not noticeable at all.

I have taken some photos of KC's figures inside our shophouse model to show you what I mean... take a look below.

We're still working on the prototype of this shophouse and have not begun production yet. So it may only be ready towards the end of this year. I will definitely update here when it's ready!

Thanks, John! We certainly will! Very excited ourselves to see its progress!

Hello folks! We are very excited to share our latest releases in our Singapore / Malaya Heritage Collection - The Singapore Shophouse model (2 designs), along with 5 new character figures, the Clog Maker, Tailor & Customer, CHIJ Girls Playing 5 Stones, Vegetable Seller and an Indian Lady dressed in traditional saree.

Some of you may recall that these Shophouses have been a long-time in the making for us. But we're really happy with how they turned out. They're probably the most important pieces in our Singapore Heritage Collection so far, as they complete the 1950s Chinatown street scene which we had envisioned from day 1.

These figures pair perfectly with 1/30 figures from other manufacturers like King & Country/JJD/Thomas Gunn. Check out these pictures which feature our shophouses paired with Imperial Japanese Army figurines from Thomas Gunn Miniatures. They work perfectly with any scene in the Malaya conflict!

There are 2 shophouse designs to choose from - yellow and white - each with their own unique details. And we've specially designed for them to be combined seamlessly as a row of buildings. Look out for all the fine details - such as the dragon and flower motifs on the facade panels and the center railings with intricate design work painstakingly recreated from real-life archival photos. And to top it off, we've added battery-operated LED light bulbs and lanterns to make the whole shophouse come alive! As for the new characters, the Clog Maker and Tailor in particular were designed to be displayed inside the shophouse (though they look great as standalones as well). Without further ado, here are the pictures. You can click on our website links to view more.

For those who are less familiar, these figurines capture the lost trades that were commonly seen on the streets of Singapore/Malaya in the 1950s-1970s. The initial releases in our Heritage collection aim to capture a busy shophouse scene in Chinatown. Close your eyes and imagine dirty streets, the smells of food wafting from makeshift food stalls on the street, the shouts of merchants calling out to passerbys, the clamour of the crowds going about their daily business, and the crowded five-foot walkways under the shophouses where these early immigrants plied their trades. These trades were rapidly replaced as Singapore went through a very rapid period of modernization. These figurines were carefully recreated from archival photos for maximum realism. We paid close attention to the tiny details and many of these figurines come with accompanying accessories to best represent the trade. These videos on youtube provides a glimpse of what life was like back in the '50s.
