Doesn’t get attention here but soccer has become huge in Atlanta with the success of Atlanta United. The team is owned by Home Depot cofounder, and Atlanta Falcon owner, Arthur Blank.

In just their second season, AU won the MLS league Cup last night, winning 2-0 against the Portland Timbers in Mercedes Benz stadium.

First Pro Sports title for Atlanta since 1995 Braves.

With the change in demographics and the popularity of youth soccer I believe soccer will overtake other professional sports in this country. Football and baseball would seem to be the most
vulnerable but still rooted in our culture so only time will tell.
I have attended soccer matches in Europe and South America and the enthusiasm seems to be on steroids compared to going to a baseball game.

As a fan who has been to the World Cup and the Bernabéu (where Real Madrid play), what Rich said above has been said for years. I'm beginning to have my doubts about the viability of football in this country; not making the World Cup was an embarrassment. It's only been 24 since the MLS was established so perhaps a little more patience is needed.

It's only been 24 since the MLS was established...…………...

It has lasted 23 years longer than I thought it would.

I've been offered free NE Revolution more times than I can count; I wouldn't go if they were free...…...oh wait, they were and I still didn't go.

I love international soccer, ie, the World Cup, the European championship, etc, etc, US professional soccer has zero interest for me.

As Brad said, US soccer is going backwards, not to have qualified for the World Cup is a total and utter embarrassment.

The MLS is necessary for the national team to do well as the league helps develop the players that can play on the national team as well as in Europe and other parts of the world, thereby earning money for the MLS on transfer fees. 2018 was a setback but not the end.
