In March of 1858 Sir Colin Campbell led a relief expedition of the Highland Brigade to Lucknow to route out mutineers during the Indian Mutiny. Here we see a member of the 42nd Regiment of Foot inspecting residences surrounding the city in search of mutineers who may have sought shelter there.

Figure: WB Museum Collection.

note: the photo backdrop is an actual (modern) image from Lucknow.

Really nice pic!I love the Indian Mutiny period..those ragtag regiments assembled from various destinations and sent to save the garnisons of Lucknow and Cawnpore..i really think natural to hope for a Indian Mutiny Matte range..now i'll buy some of the most affordable Dehli Durbar figures (i fear i am out of the competiotion for the elephant) , i really admire the indian culture and specially the Sikhs..great people!

I had a number of colleagues from India when I was at Syracuse University and became fascinated with the culture. One friend had been a musician in the Indian army and had the most wonderful collection of figures (he painted himself) representing the history of the Indian Army. By the way Syracuse has a long standing graduate program in Florence. One of its grad students whom I helped with his M. A. research was Peter Weller a.k.a. Robocop. He is now working on his doctorate at UCLA.
