I heard that on the radio this morning, but I don't think it's really new info. I recall that she talked about her service during the war, in a biography that was taped in the late 90's. I'm not sure it was a secret.
And the media present the story about Child and others who worked for the OSS in a sensationalistic light, using terminology that makes the average person think that these people were some kind of undercover agents or 007's. Kind of like the Valerie Plame case, she was never a secret agent, but that's the impression you'd get from reading the stories, like she seduced foreign potentates and smuggled microfilm in her garter belt (that's suspenders, for our Commonwealth cousins).
In any case, Julia Child was already a very interesting lady, and a great cook. I miss her shows.
Miss the Two Fat Ladies, too. It's a shame Jennifer Patterson passed away, but then, I was surprised she made to her seventies, given how much she smoked and all the butter she ate. Something to be said for the preservative powers of scotch.
Prost!
