Well, it’s definitely a lot warmer in Beijing during June than it was in March – but that does have certain compensations.
:D:D

I’d have liked to have a photo of the pre-meal presentation as the Peking Duck was rather artistically presented – unfortunately, all I have is a snap of the aftermath

:eek::eek:

Not sure if we’ll have time to visit the Beijing Military Museum on this occasion – lots to do before Saturday. But for Toy Soldier related photos from Beijing please refer to the “Russian Hussars at Borodino” thread in the First Legion section of the forum.

Oh, that was real Guinness Scott - and at "Real Tourist Prices" as well.
This is a whole newly developed area of Beijing I never even knew existed - and its only 10 minutes away from my company's office by taxi. It was our Regional Manager for North Asia who told us about it.
I'd like to try that area again, but at night next time. I'm willing to bet it's full of Western people - and "cool" Beijingers. Maybe Thursday or Friday night.
Also want to do the Military Museun again - but just to take some pics of what's for sale in the model shop, cos we won't have time do do much more.
We're actually in Beijing mainly on company business on this occasion. So that has to be first priority. (Did arrange for two TS orders to be sitting in the office waiting to be picked up at the same time as our visit - of course). Going to be busy tomorrow - Thai Consulate again, and if we can fit it in, it'll be the Brit one too.
We'll have much more opportunities to go exploring when we return in July - cos that's going to be yet another visit to the British Consulate, but on our own private business this time. Oh, and pick up yet another TS order as well.
;);) :):)

Cheers

I was going to ask what is Lucy drinking then? :D

Jeff

Well, believe it or not Jeff - that's her two pints. We had two each. She reckons Guinness tastes like "medicine". I've told her it's a special kind of beer that's good for a Lady's complexion and keeps her looking young.
All it does to guy's is enlarge the beer gut - of course.
:eek::eek:

Ummm Cheers

Harry, my friend, you look like you are living large . . . :D

Every short holiday we've taken this year has been at least partially financed on expenses due to the fact that they've been connected in some way with company business Louis. Even the last week of December in Dubai followed by a month in January spent together in Thailand was all done on corporate rates. So living half my life on the "Prison Hulks" out on the ocean wave does have its compensations.
Just waiting for the latest additions to our collection to make it through the Chinese server. When they eventually appear in the First Legion "Russian Hussars at Borodino" thread - you'll see why I reckon they'll work well in the diorama I bought them for.

Cheers

Here’s Missus Heid buying who-knows-what last night :rolleyes:

This was taken just outside the British Consulate this morning

I’ve cropped this one to try and make it a bit clearer.
That is indeed a Polo-shirt with a “King and Country UK” label.

We went to my favourite venue in Beijing for lunch today
I’ve no idea why the V-Peace sign is exhibited so much – but they all do it – Missus H being no exception

Me, myself, well I prefer the Churchill V-For-Victory Version

Mrs H finally paid the bill around 20:00PM tonight – not before time – we’d been there since 12:00 noon…!!! :D

Snap of the HRC ceiling – lots of familiar figures there

To Be Continued......

As I mentioned to Louis earlier, and to Andanna on another thread, I'm in Beijing primarily on company business on this occasion. Unfortunately, this precluded another visit to the Military Museum - but we'll definitely be going there again, and a few other places of interest, in July.
The upside of course is that my description of our location as being "The Cheapest Hotel I Could Find" isn't quite true. I was given three choices as to where I could shack up during this particular trip, and it wasn't a difficult decision to make, in that the Sheraton Great Wall was the first hotel I ever stayed in the first time I came to China in 1995.
Me'n'Missus Heid also stayed here 5 years ago while we obtained our visas for Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. So it's been a real trip down memory lane;

We went to the Hard Rock Cafe again yesterday afternoon, then back to the hotel where I caught Missus H messing around on camera;

Last night was spent at my favourite watering hole - yet again, where one 3-litre container of Tiger beer was enough to see the entire night through;

Today, we got finished up at the British Consulate by 12:00 noon - so we went exploring again;

And Hey - Look what we found;

So it was inside for lunch and a couple of pints of the real thing;

However, all good things come to an end eventually.
I'm off to Bangkok tomorrow for a month on the ocean wave in the Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, Missus H is heading home to Dalian with all the new TS (and other) loot.

The great thing is; I'll be picking up even more TS stuff in HK around the beginning of second week in July - AND - we'll both be picking up another TS order from Beijing towards the end of July. But this time, we'll try and get photos of something a bit more related to toy soldier collecting than the inside of pubs......

Until Next Time
H
