Mountford Metal Miniatures, why are they gone and why not back???? (1 Viewer)

Dear All,

It has been to me a mystery why Dave Love, fantastic sculptor and craftman with, then and to this date, the most extensive catalogue of artillery pieces ranging from the Napoleonic times to WW2 and modern times....Covering artillery pieces, ammo cassions and all other accessories, decided to sell the másters and leave for good the miniature Market.....I would have understood that, had he retired, but he still hangs on with his microminiature business of ships and planes for modern engneering diorama plans...^&confuse......WHY DID HE DO THAT?
I for sure know that in some form or capacity he is working with another recente " comer " to our WW1/Artillery segment and both are doing great....But why not make a full come back selling us the sets in metal kits as in the past?? The company that he sold the masters to Down Under has goe caput..desappeared and that has been more that 5 years ago....more than time for any non exclusivity clause to have expired....Even if one existed many sets that he would offer were not in the lot bought by the caput guys...Even so new masters could be drawn with his unlimited capacity to make us Artillery Lovers want more.....

Does anyone have the answer to the mystery???

In terms of artillery he has made the 4.7 with two alternative sets of wheels, the 9.2 howitzer, the MkIV 18pdr and limber ( the only model of this gun in production) and the fantastic Big Bertha, photographs of which were shown in the Chicago Show thread. Vehicles produced include an Old Bill bus, a motorised pigeon loft, a workshop lorry, a balloon lorry, a troop carrier, a Crossley tender, a Crossley ambulance, a steriliser lorry, and several motor cycles including a Clyno being used in an Ack Ack mode. It is understood that further items are being planned. All these items can be seen on the Model Armoury website, enquiries as to whether they can be obtained unpainted should be directed to Clive Gande. Trooper

Got that Trooper, what I can not reconcilie is giving up a reference for artillery pieces that was Mountford ......to draw and cast for third party.....depriving us from the old range...

Business is business, Luis, Dave found he could do better with the model ship side of things rather than the artillery. Earlier I listed a whole mass of items made by him for Model Armoury many of which you with your unique collection should find of interest, surely you should receive this with open arms and cheque book. As to the old range, that was sold with the premise that it would be ongoing, no one knew then the almighty mess that would be made of it all. If you want the old series resurrected then speak to Clive Gande, at present the emphasis is on WW1 but he may well be inclined to expand if there is enough interest. Trooper

That´s a plan, for now we need to indulge ourselves ( and keep an eye on our checkbooks ) on Clive´s valid entreprise....
I hear you on Dave´s change in business model.....for some reason known to him the Profit & Loss financial analysis, overhead and the Works must have lead him to take the swing....to our loss {sm2} Eventhought I only very late and only thanks to the internet got to be acquainted with Mountford´s fantastic line....was as many here not expecting the buyer of the artillery line to have a short and turbulent existence{sm2}....to our loss....again
Last but not the least thanks for the note and complement to my artillery park....You as the master of many of the soldier molds and Obee as the mentor to my humble artillery are the ones to take most of the credit:salute::

Re MOUNTFORD Metal Artillery and Figure Kits
I have today in my posession a lot of the Mountford Kits , and Production Tooling Moulds and surviving "Masters". We purchased these from the now defunct FLEURBAIX new Zealnd Company last Summer, and shipped them to Europe to re issue and re make again.

It is our intention to re issue a number of these Metal kits and figures again in 1/32 Scale.

Due to previous ownership however, sadly we must report today, (July 6th 2024) that a number of "MASTERS" are damaged, lost or "missing" which agravates somewhat the ease of any re issue process.


Accordding to some sources, previous management and customer experience may not have been as it should have been, and there appears to be some "negative" comment surrounding previous sale and purchases of their Kits. This was from the Australian and then New Zealand Operation, that has now permanenty closed down last year after the death of the previous manager Mr Abram Simon.

I contacted the original maker and creator and seller, of the "Mountford Range" Dave Love, who is now concentrating on making waterline Miniature ships.

He shared a few points with us. "Stuff not properly assembled" "Missing Parts", and "dissapeared masters and kits in a fire they (the new purchasers Dave sold it too) had".

There were complaints at the time.

TARRANTS of Bristol used to be Gregg and Abrams UK retailers, (I visited the shop a few years back now when selling our Chota Sahib and Studio Figurines). They carried full stocks, but all the stuff got sold to a company (the one we traced to Australia) and IT DISSAPEARED.

One has to draw some conclusions from this affair.

I am saddenned to have to say this but the history of the "sale" and ownership of MOUNTFORD Kits contains some strange stories of "Toolings Dissappearing" to a certain "front" companie who promptly vanished some years ago now. I have traced this "Company" to Australia, where apparently a lot of the Mountford stuff "Dissappeared" in a "unexplained fire" some years ago. This "fire" was undisclosed to us as the new purchasers at the time.

Hence we were not given ALL that we should have been having paid for it, and are "short" of a few items.
We have written "without positive results" to the foirmer business New Zealand adress.

Can anybody please offer us Help in sourcing certain "Dissappeared" Mountford Kits un made please?

I am happy to hear that the series will be restructured and once more offered to us collectors.

Also, sad to here of the passing of Abram....I in the past I did purchase some un assembled artillery sets and was fortunate to say they were delivered in good quality, although I may be mistaken.

The very unfortunate travels of the Mounford series is somthing to be sad about and looks like they have had a hard time...Started buying sets from the series initially from Dave Love many years ago, them from Abram`s father ( just after he had bought the series from Dave, so they were still old stock made by Dave), and back in 2020 specific artillery kits from Abram...But yes, between Abram and his father many strange stories poped up as to the misfortunes of the series and some really bad quality kits at the begining....

Wish you all the success in redelpoying the seires!
Do keep us up to date as to when you have offerings to sell sets to the market again.....
