Based on those conversations, auditions for Aragorn are taking place this week in London. Aragorn is being recast, with auditions happening both in London and New Zealand.
I’ve been told by people close to casting that Ben Barnes and Sebastian Stan are considered too old for the vision of Aragorn. The film reportedly takes place in the 20 years prior to THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING acting as a bridge between THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS.”

The answer is no. There are bits and pieces, I guess. But if you did an extended-extended cut, or whatever it will get called, it would be disappointing. It would be the extended cut with a few extra seconds of something here and there; it wouldn’t be worthwhile doing.”
Jackson hinted at a possible new documentary, “The footage contains alternative takes. It contains bloopers. It contains a bit more of a sense of the mechanics of making the films. But to this day, I haven’t persuaded [the studio], because obviously it’s a big undertaking.”

STAR WARS---Kathleen Kennedy, who has officially retired as head of Lucasfilm, commented on the status of a number of STAR WARS movies whose fates will be determined by her successors, Dave Filoni and Lywnwen Brennan, "I’ve got to tread a bit carefully here. Jim Mangold and Beau Willimon wrote an incredible script, but it is definitely breaking the mold and it’s on hold. Taika [Waititi] has turned in a script that I think is hilarious and great. It’s not just my decision, especially when I’ve got a foot out the door. Donald Glover has turned in a script. And as you have read, Steve Soderbergh and Adam Driver turned in a script written by Scott Burns. It was just great. Anything’s a possibility if somebody’s willing to take a risk."
She added, "We’ve talked about this new trilogy and then the things that you’ve mentioned. Mangold’s is really on the back burner as is Soderbergh’s. I think the ones by Taika and Donald are still somewhat alive. That’s going to really be up to the new team to figure out. Dave, I know that Dave and Lynwen are very much on board with what Simon’s doing, and that would be a new trilogy. In the timeline of things, that takes you well into 2030 plus. So that’s really what’s up next.”
She did not comment on Patty Jenkins' ROGUE SQUADRON or Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's movie.
Kennedy also commented on Rian Johnson and THE LAST STARFIGHTER, "Once he made the Netflix deal and went off to start doing the KNIVES OUT films, that has occupied a huge amount of his time. That’s the other thing that happens here. After Shawn [Levy] and I started talking about STAR WARS, STRANGER THINGS kicks in and he was completely consumed for a while by that. That’s what happened with Rian. And then I do believe he got spooked by the online negativity. I think Rian made one of the best STAR WARS movies. He’s a brilliant filmmaker and he got spooked. This is the rough part. When people come into this space, I have every filmmaker and actors say to me, ‘What’s going to happen?’ They’re a little scared.”

GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin said his novels will be different than the tv series, “[The book’s ending is] going to be significantly different. Some characters who are alive in my book are going to be dead in the show, and vice versa,"
Martin said about Tyrion and Sansa, “I was going to kill more people. Not the ones they killed [in the show]. They made it more of a happy ending. I don’t see a happy ending for Tyrion. His whole arc has been tragic from the first. I was going to have Sansa die, but she’s been so appealing in the show, maybe I’ll let her live.”
He also commented on the two novels, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING, “I have to write more DUNK AND EGG. There’s supposed to be another FIRE AND BLOOD book, too. I do think if I can just get some of these other things off my back, I could finish THE WINDS OF WINTER pretty soon. It’s been made clear to me that WINDS is the priority, but… I don’t know. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for that."

FEAR NOT---Anne Hathaway will star in the Paramount+ miniseries based on the true story of a serial killer who forms a bond with his latest kidnap victim.

APPLE---Apple TV announced a new, untitled tv series starring Dakota Fanning whose synopsis says, "Fanning will star as an undercover Treasury agent in a multibillion-dollar international conglomerate with world-changing political and criminal tentacles, who becomes conflicted between her mission and a belief that her principal target, the heir apparent to all that corrupt power, is at his core a good man and worthy of her love."

BLUE BEETLE---co-star Belissa Escobedo commented on a sequel to the 2023 superhero movie, “Oh, absolutely. That’s totally in the works and in talks. So hopefully that’s happening soon. I’m gonna see Xolo [Mariduena] soon. We’re going to do a Comic-Con together.” Director Angel Manuel Soto said, “Yeah, there have been conversations, and that’s all I can say. I mean, that’s fair. Conversations have been happening. And there’s definitely… James [Gunn] has been very vocal about keeping Blue Beetle in the DCU. So good things are coming for Jaime Reyes and his family.”

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON---Cate Blanchett will return as the Viking warrior Valka for the sequel.

TRIVIA---in the original 1963 THE PINK PANTHER, Inspector Jacques Clouseau was to be played by Peter Ustinov, and his wife, Simone, was to be played by Ava Gardner. Ustinov, was reportedly unhappy with Gardner's exit, so he did not show up on the first day of filming and was fired and later sued by Mirisch for breach of contract (Ustinov may also have left because he did not want return for any sequels). Peter Sellers was picked to replace Ustinov after director Blake Edwards met him while vacationing in Rome. Edwards then hired Capucine to replace Gardner.
After leaving THE PINK PANTHER, Ustinov starred in the comedy heist movie TOPKAPI and won an Academy Award.

In THE PINK PANTHER, Peter Ustinov was to play Inspector Jacques Clouseau, and Ava Gardner was supposed to play his wife, Simone.

INDIANA JONES---former Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy commented on the future of the INDIANA JONES franchise, "I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it. These are timeless movies, and Indy will never be done...You never know. But we are all still here, Steven [Spielberg] and Frank [Marshall] and I, and Harrison [Ford] and George [Lucas]. So we get to say whether there’s going to be any more, or not.”

STAR WARS---former Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy commented on Rian Johnson and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, “I do believe he got spooked by the online negativity. I think Rian made one of the best STAR WARS movies. He’s a brilliant filmmaker and he got spooked." Johnson posted his reply, "Lol zero spooked, sorry."
Kennedy also commented on SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, the first major STAR WARS movie to be a box office bomb, “I brought Larry Kasdan in on, and we were so excited about that idea. And then when you’re into something and you realize fundamentally, conceptually, you cannot replace Han Solo, at least right now. As wonderful as Alden Ehrenreich was, and he really was good, and is a wonderful actor, we put him in an impossible situation. And once you’re in it and once you’re committed, you’ve got to carry on. I think I have a bit of regret about that, but not about the moviemaking and filmmaking. I don’t have regrets about that. I just think that conceptually, we did it too soon.”

STAR-WARS-FOTOR.jpg

MAN OF TOMORROW---James Gunn said Batman and Wonder Woman are not in the movie which features a different female character.

STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY---White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted his thoughts on STARFLEET ACADEMY along with a film clip of Holly Hunter wearing eyeglasses, "Tragic. But it’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise. Step 1: Reconcile with @WilliamShatner and give him total creative control."
William Shatner posted his reply,

😳 😱
I am so on the same page with you @StephenM!
The fact that they have not cure Hyperopia by the 32rd Century is an abysmal oversight on the writers!😤
Also @paramountplus needs to up the budget because I’m sure that a well oiled organization like Starfleet in the distant future could afford more than one pair of glasses for at least this hyperopic bridge crew.🤷🏼
Do they pass the glasses 👓 around while piloting the ship‽ 🙄
Shame on the line producers!
🤔That is what you meant, right‽ 😉👍🏻
I am ready to assume command of the series!
Call me! 🤙🏻🙂!

A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS---George RR Martin commented on the scene of Ser Duncan the Tall relieving himself by squatting behind a tree, “Yeah, that was a bit of a surprise. Not to say that my characters don’t take s***s, but I normally don’t write about them at any length...When I saw the rough cut, I wrote, ‘What is this? Where did this come from? I don’t know if we really need the s***,’”...But (showrunner Ira Parker) liked it for whatever reason.”

Certainly, in terms of Brendan and Rachel], bringing them back together, and Rachel was up for it, by all accounts. She was willing to do that, you know, having gone off and created her own path, and been very successful as a producer, as an actor, Oscar-nominated, you know."

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD---movie insider Jeff Sneider claims the Batman movie is being written by Christina Hodson (THE FLASH, BIRDS OF PREY), “I don’t know if her DC track record explains why Gunn wanted to keep this hire under wraps, but he has intimated that he hoped to shield the then-unnamed writer of The Brave and the Bold from the public pressure that comes with writing a Batman movie."
Sneider said the movie might be in “significant creative changes” and Hodson could be writing another DCU project, “But as of now, to the best of my knowledge, it’s Hodson whom Gunn has been referring to in his cryptic statements in recent months. Again, Hodson could be replaced tomorrow for all I know, but as of tonight, I have no reason to think it’s anyone else.”

Like, this has been it…He puts Jake Schreier on, last year, as the director of X-MEN…He’s kind of let Amy Pascal handle a lot of the SPIDER-MAN stuff.
There wasn’t much, really – like, Sadie Sink is there, but other than that, he is focused on this return. So, just know that, people. He’s in London all the time.
If that dude has his mind set on just the one thing, like he used to do back in the day with IRON MAN or THOR, they turn out good. It’s when he has like eight other things that it gets a little tougher.”

THE BIG FIX---Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed will star in the Netflix movie based on a true story about an ex-Interpol agent working for FIFA, who investigates a worldwide soccer match-fixing conspiracy.

WERWULF---Bodhi Rae Breathnach (HAMNET) will co-star with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe in the Robert Eggers werewolf movie.

THE MUMMY---Oded Fehr, who played warrior Ardeth Bay in the original 1999 movie, commented on the new sequel, "I gotta tell you, man, I'm so excited that you're excited. I have no idea. I haven't been contacted. I don't know anything about it. I know that the internet has been saying it as though it exists and it's a done deal, but haven't heard anything about it. So I'm hoping it happens. I'm hoping I get to be in it. But there's nothing I can tell you about it."
He added, "I hope that happens. I can tell you that I love THE MUMMY. It's made me into working actor. I love the actors on it. I've gotten to see a few of them in the last couple of years, and I hope it happens, but I have not been contacted."

LANDMAN---the Season finale had 14.8 million views worldwide which is Paramount+'s biggest series finale ever.

TOMB RAIDER---Sophie Turner commented on Laura Croft in the Amazon Prime tv series by saying Croft will not be “sex bombshell...It’s about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies. But I really want to show the other side.”
She added, “She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.”

CGI---Gore Verbinski (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN) commented on the decline of movie CGI, “I think the simplest answer is you’ve seen the Unreal gaming engine enter the visual effects landscape. So it used to be a divide, with Unreal Engine being very good at video games, but then people started thinking maybe movies can also use Unreal for finished visual effects. So you have this sort of gaming aesthetic entering the world of cinema.
I think that Unreal Engine coming in and replacing Maya as a sort of fundamental is the greatest slip backwards. It works with Marvel movies where you kind of know you’re in a heightened, unrealistic reality. I think it doesn’t work from a strictly photo-real standpoint.
I just don’t think it takes light the same way; I don’t think it fundamentally reacts to subsurface, scattering, and how light hits skin and reflects in the same way. So that’s how you get this uncanny valley when you come to creature animation, a lot of in-betweening is done for speed instead of being done by hand.
And then just what’s become acceptable from an executive standpoint, where they think no one will care that the ships in the ocean look like they’re not on the water. In the first PIRATES movie, we were actually going out to sea and getting on a boat.”

NETFLIX---Netflix cancelled THE ABANDONS and THE VINCE STAPLE SHOW.

CUSTOM OF THE COUNTRY---Sydney Sweeney will star in the movie based on the novel where Sweeney will play "Undine Spragg, an ambitious Midwestern young woman who attempts to ascend the social ladder through ruthlessness, seduction, vanity, and manipulation in early 20th-century New York City society."

SEED: LEGACY---new sequel to the 2006 Uwe Boll serial killer horror movie in which Emily Bishop escapes and hunts down Max Seed in an ayslum.

TRIVIA---January 22, 2025 is the 146th anniversary of the Battle of Rorke's Drift in which 150 British soldiers defended a remote outpost in Natal, Africa under siege by 4,000 Zulu warriors. Eleven of the defenders, including outpost commander Lt. John Chard, were awarded the Victoria Cross, England's highest military honor for valor in combat. In the Rorke's Drift movie ZULU, Chard was played by Stanley Baker, who was also the movie's producer. Baker owned a "cast copy" of Chard's VC, but after Baker's death in 1976, tests proved his VC was the real VC awarded to Chard. Baker died never knowing he owned the real VC.
